Hear Bassnectar’s secret ‘West Coast Lo Fi’ set at Oregon Eclipse 2017

When Bassnectar took to the Oregon Eclipse main stage on Saturday, August 19, little did fans know that the producer had something special in store for the next night. Rumors began circulating that the bass music demigod would be taking the then-unannounced slot at the Moon stage (the festival’s bass arena) the following night at 9 PM.

As the crowd began packing into the the banks of the lake surrounded by psychedelic mushroom structures, it became clear that something phenomenal was about to ensue. Indeed, Lorin Ashton was crouched beneath the decks preparing to grace fans with one of his iconic “West Coast Lo Fi” sets — a low-lit, low-key experience that hasn’t happened since Symbiosis in 2009.

The surprise set resembled the Bassnectar’s stylings from the late aughts and early ’10s, when he began to remaster some of his well-known hits like “Heads Up” and “Timestretch” into more subdued, down-tempo renditions that he deemed “West Coast Lo Fi” remixes. The hour-long set is filled with the changing tempos that make Bassnectar performances so unique, along with remixes of Missy Elliott, Beyoncé, 18plus’ “Midnight Lucy,” and his “Beat Like Mystic” mash-up with a sample from a Blokhe4d song mixed over an a cappella of Lil’ Mama’s “Shawty Get Loose.”
