Diplo pledges $100,000 to Las Vegas shooting victims’ fund, calls on fellow DJs to follow suit [UPDATED]
Diplo seems to have started somewhat of a philanthropic “Revolution” among dance music producers.
The Major Lazer teammate announced his $100,000 donation to victims of the Las Vegas shooting early morning October 7 via Twitter. “My deepest sympathies are with the victims…and their families,” Diplo stated. “It’s my hope that these events will start a long awaited and honest conversation about the importance of gun control in America. Las Vegas is my home, and it’s devastating to see this happen in such a vibrant city with an amazing community of people I consider my family.”
I donated $100,000 this weekend to the victims in Las Vegas. I challenge any other Dj’s or hotel owners to match it we owe it to the city pic.twitter.com/6LyQFEK4eA

In addition to sharing the news of his pledge, Diplo encouraged others to step forward to offer their assistance. “I challenge any other DJ’s or hotel owners to match it [the donation],” Diplo wrote. “We owe it to the city.” Valentino Khan, Kaskade, and Tiësto have since answered Diplo’s call to action, each submitting donations. Khan submitted his Las Vegas booking fee from the weekend, while Tiësto notably matched Diplo’s $100,000 pledge.

Diplo’s contribution “will go to the fund established by the Clark County Commission, to be distributed directly to victims and their families in partnership with state and local officials.” Those interested in donating to victims and their families may do so here.
Update: Numerous artists have followed Diplo’s lead, announcing hefty donations to Vegas victims, their families, and the city. Dillon Francis has matched Diplo’s $100,000 contribution, stating his intent to direct half of the sum to Vegas, and the other half to Puerto Rico to assist the island in its post hurricane restoration efforts.
Gonna do the same but half to Vegas half to Puerto Rico #VegasStrong#PuertoRicoStronghttps://t.co/qiaTM4A28j

While Tiesto had previously declared a $100,000 donation to Vegas victims, the “Harder” collaborator has only since increased the stakes, doubling down to donate $200,000.
As a Las Vegas lover I do what Vegas lovers do! I double down! So I will donate 200k https://t.co/GHjnjmtvMJ#VegasStrong

Dance music’s favorite jet puffed public figure, Marshmello has also joined the philanthropic movement, matching Diplo’s $100,000 donation in a recent Instagram post.
