U.S. police brace for heightened security scenarios at outdoor venues

In the wake of the horrible tragedy that took place in Las Vegas on October 1, where gunman Stephen Paddock murdered 59 innocent civilians and wounded hundreds more from a hotel room overlooking the Route 91 Harvest country music festival, U.S. police officials are bracing for heightened security measures for outdoor venues.

Notably, Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina spoke about the challenges facing the many large-scale outdoor events that take place in the city, including Ultra Music Festival whose location in Bayfront Park leaves it surrounded by tall building.

Colina said he was, “Incredibly saddened by the images on TV and horrified as well,” and added, “It’s something to consider now that we meet with the folks from Ultra since you mention it and we will speak specifically about some issues.” The Miami Police chief went on to expand on possible strategies saying “In the past we have talked about putting people place as spotters on rooftops of buildings on close proximity and this is always something to keep in mind.”
