Ultra releases fourth episode of ’20 Years of Ultra’ documentary series

The fourth episode in Ultra Music Festival‘s 20 Years of Ultra documentary series, “The Explosion of Electronic Music” expands upon the third installment, “Growth and Expansion,” to trace dance music’s ascendance to a dominant genre in the American music market.

“There was a movement going on in 2010, 2011, especially in America, dance music [was] embraced as never before,” Hardwell states in the video, “I think no one saw this coming.” Featuring commentary from industry fixtures like Carl Cox, Armin Van Buuren, and David Guetta, the fourth episode additionally chronicles the then growing popularity of live streaming, a feature that enabled live electronic music events like Ultra to reach, and appeal to, larger populations than ever before.

“The Explosion of Electronic Music” seems only to add more smoke to the suspicion that Swedish House Mafia will reconvene at Bayfront Park later this March in honor of Ultra Music Festival’s 20th birthday. The episode notably includes footage of the mega group’s last performance, at the Miami festival in 2013.

“I think it was the perfect spot, the perfect time, closing Ultra, as the last show of Swedish House Mafia,” Hardwell remarks. Whether this smoke will lead to fire? Only time will tell.
