Always ahead of the curve, Pioneer has previewed their newest mobile DJing rig, the XDJ-R1. The wireless system combines USB/CD playback with MIDI controller functionality, integrating physical components of the CDJ and DJM mixer with new remotebox iOS technology. Pioneer’s new controller vests an unprecedented faith in the addition of iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches into the mobile DJing system, taking advantage of their wireless and touchscreen capabilities. Replacing laptops with smaller iOS devices is a promising alternative for controller-minded DJs, and with a hardware mixing system unhindered by computer glitches, the XDJ-R1 is certainly a step in the right direction. Look for its official release this month.
