Essential Mix Review: Breach — not just all about the ‘Jack’
Breach is the alter-ego of the multitalented singer/songwriter/DJ/producer Ben Westbeech and last week, he visited the Radio 1 decks in the studio for the first time (he was featured on a live mix for the Warehouse Project in 2007). As of late, Breach is largely known for his megahit “Jack” on Dirtybird Records, but his talent and taste for house music goes far beyond a single homerun record. When discussing his method behind this mix, Westbeech revealed that using Ableton, he compiled what he feels is the core of the “Breach sound,” and like many other Essential Mix-goers, asked friends and peers for a samplings of exclusives for excitable Radio 1 fans. There are some insta-classics like Joy O’s BHRTHDTT, Midland’s “Trace,” and Hotflush’s most recent from Paul Woolford, but for the most part he strayed from predictability and towards choice house records that flow into a cohesive 120 minutes of dance music.
