5 reasons you can’t miss California’s Symbiosis Gathering this weekend

Taking place Thursday through Monday in Oakdale, California (a couple hours outside of San Francisco), Symbiosis Gathering is primed to be one of the most enriching festival experiences California has to offer. Located at the beautiful Woodward Reservoir, the five day festival is a harmonious mixture of music, art, and spirituality. Think Lightning in a Bottle meets the Bay Area.

1. The Big Acts You Already Know

With headlining slots from jam band extraordinaires STS9 and a DJ set from the one and only Simon Posford of Shpongle, Symbiosis’s lineup is dominated by forward-thinking musical acts of the psychedelic perversion. Trap/bass artists RL Grime and Hudson Mohawke and Lunice of TNGHT are heavier acts on the bill, while downtempo masters Emancipator and Mount Kimbie round out the lineup. Finally, we can’t help but mention the French deviant himself, Brodinksi.

2. The Mid-sized Acts You Need to Know

The fun doesn’t stop with the headliners. For fans of chilled out, otherworldly electronica, Symbiosis Gathering’s lineup has an unparalleled depth. Cashmere Cat and Ryan Hemsworth bring a future bass sound to the table, while UK artists Phaeleh and T. Williams offer up some of the best dubstep, garage, and 2-step at the festival. Looking even deeper, Michal Menert of Pretty Lights Music and the king of moon parties himself, Kayla Scintilla, make the depth of this lineup truly astonishing.

3. The Stages

With four main stages spread out over the lush reservoir, each zone promises to be its own haven of entrancing and mystifying music. Expect some spectacular stage design, with the largest stage in particular being designed by  Josh Flemming, one of the founders of the Do Lab.

4. The Lake

Early weather forecasts predict that it’s going to be very warm at Symbiosis. Luckily for festival attendees, Woodward Reservoir boasts a gigantic lake. The friendly people at Symbiosis have opted to allow all-day swimming (which, for many, will become all night swimming).

5. Five Days of Peace, Love, Yoga, and Art

As hippyish as such an experience may sound, you certainly don’t have to be a hippie to enjoy five days of music festival camping. The fact that there are endless yoga, meditation and spirituality seminars only enhances the experience. You won’t find people more open and loving anywhere else (ok, maybe Burning Man) than at Symbiosis Gathering this weekend.

Tickets are still on sale. Even if you can’t make it the whole five days, going to Symbiosis for any amount of time will surely be worth it.
