Pasquale Rotella under investigation for corruption in dealings with L.A. Coliseum

Insomniac Logo

Pasquale Rotella is best known for putting on awesome, gigantic raves for Insomniac Events (ever heard of Electric Daisy Carnival?) but it looks like he’s in a bit of hot water now concerning past business dealings with the LA Coliseum. LA Weekly reports that in addition to LA Coliseum officials Patrick Lynch, Todd DeStefano, and Reza Gerami, Pasquale may be arrested for unlawful business dealings with the venue. The paper alleges that stagehands were paid under the table (as opposed to through their union), and that the actual Coliseum officials received “hundreds of thousands of dollars to help them put on their electronic music shows” — causing significant losses to the Coliseum itself.

Ultra Music Festival Bayfront Park spy shots: Carl Cox tent and more

UMF-Spy-shots-1-2012

Ultra Music Festival doesn’t technically start until tomorrow, but the massive setup effort is in full effect now (and has been for almost a week so far). We wandered over to Bayfront Park a bit early to see how things were coming along, and have a couple more spy photos to share with you. From what we can tell, the Carl Cox tent looks absolutely ginormous, with huge hexagonal panels running across the top of the domed structure and lots and lots of steel. We only got an obscured view of the Main Stage from our vantage point, but some things are better left unseen until they’re fully ready. More photos after the break!

Avicii Levels tour hitting arenas all over North America this May and June

Avicii At Slagthuset

Avicii is no stranger to big North American tours — and we’re no strangers to seeing him live on them — but he has just announced another tour for May and June that brings things to another level. Le7els is billed as the first all-arena tour for an EDM act, and will be hitting venues such as Reliant Arena in Houston, American Airlines Arena in Miami, and Boston’s TD Garden later on. We’re sure that most of you have already seen Avicii once or twice for yourselves, but if not, this could be your opportunity to experience Tim live for the first time. Tickets for the June 8th show at American Airlines Arena in Miami go on sale this Friday, March 23rd, and the full tour opens up on the 26th. Full list of tour dates below.

Steve Angello talks Masquerade Motel Miami, technology, and SIZE with MTV (video)

Get More: Music News

MTV News was lucky enough to sit down with Steve Angello at XS Las Vegas — where he will hold his residency in 2012 — to discuss his upcoming plans. Not only do we learn that there will be new music, or “goodies,” at the Masquerade Motel shows, but he reveals that each day will have over 10,000 people in attendance and that the two-day setup allowed them to invite more talent to join them. He also tells us that AN21 and Max Vangeli’s album is ready, and that it’s full of “great collaborations,” along with many other up-and-comers on the Size Records imprint. You may not have known that Steve is a techie, but he is working on a new website and subscription service — which is interesting to say the least. He also reveals that he has an augmented reality app in the pipe, which could actually be quite cool if done right. We’ll be at Masquerade Motel on Saturday, so stay tuned for more SHM coverage!

Encore Beach Club, Surrender, Tryst, XS announce enormous 2012 residency lineup

Ultra_Flyer_Inside

We’ve been telling you about the constantly growing list of DJs signing exclusive residencies in Las Vegas, but the 2012 lineup of artists that’ll be at the various Wynn properties throughout the year is too big not to share. Between Encore Beach Club, Surrender, Tryst, and XS, over thirty artists will be calling the Wynn / Encore their home in Sin City throughout 2012 — and it symbolizes the hotel’s huge investment in electronic music. Among the artists on the roster are such names as Afrojack, Calvin Harris, Alesso, Dada Life, and Tiesto. David Guetta will be bringing his F*** Me I’m Famous party to Encore Beach Club, and other familiar names like the Manufactured Superstars, Max Vangeli, Nervo, Skrillex, and Steve Angello are all on the list. Other clubs in Vegas have tried to bring in talent like this, but the breadth and depth of this list will make it hard for anyone to top. Is Vegas the new Ibiza? The likening has never seemed more appropriate

Ultra Music Festival 2012 main stage revealed? (update: Carl Cox too)

Ultra-Main-Stage

This photo of what could be the Ultra 2012 main stage just popped up on our Facebook news feed, and we thought we’d share it with you. The mobile uploader believes it’s the main stage — and given the presence of an AV tent in the middle of the space and what could be the raised #TaoGroupVIP area along the water, we just might have to agree. While the stage area looks on the small side, we’re told this photo was taken from the 42nd floor of a building across the street and is zoomed in quite a bit. It doesn’t give much context to the venue itself, so don’t start making judgment calls about the new venue too soon. We’ll just have to see what happens when we arrive on the ground… Which is officially tomorrow.

View more news in our Miami Music Week Hub!

Thanks, Matt!

Update: We’ve got a shot of what could be the Carl Cox / ASOT tent below, and check out this link for a live cam of the venue right now! (Thanks, Kyle!)

Exclusive: ‘Wild One Two’ remixes from NO_ID, Jaywalker, Disfunktion change up David Guetta and Nicky Romero’s original

Jackback-Wild-One-Two

David Guetta and Nicky Romero’s “Wild One Two” incorporated a poppy vocal from Sia that had all the makings of an instant crowd pleaser, but now we’ve got the first crop of remixes that take the melodic house track and bring it to whole new dimensions. We saw NO_ID back at Cosmic Opera, and their remix preserves the catchy vocal but changes up the drop and incorporates sounds that remind us of Alesso.  Jaywalker brings in big room, progressive chords to create a high energy rendition that is impossibly catchy. Last but certainly not least, Disfunktion leaves only the original’s vocals intact, replacing the melodies and builds with a big build that drops into a playful electro breakdown. All three will be available on Beatport starting April 3rd, courtesy of Big Beat Records.

DJ soccer game pits Sweden vs Holland on Wednesday of Miami Music Week

DJ-Soccer-Game-Miami

If you follow Tiesto, Sebastian Ingrosso, or R3hab on Twitter, you may have noticed a bit of chatter about an upcoming ‘DJ Football Game’ that’s set to go down in Miami, and we can now fill in some of the details. The concept is simple: a team of Dutch DJs will take on a team of Swedes for a good old game of what we here in the States call ‘soccer.’ It’s all going down Wednesday at Noon to help kickstart Miami Music Week festivities, and will also benefit (RED), a celebrity-endorsed anti-AIDS charity advocated by the likes of Bono. Each team will be sporting custom jerseys made for the event, and they will be auctioned off after the game to benefit (RED).

Tiesto leads the Dutch team, whose members include R3hab, Nicky Romero, Sunnery James, Ryan Marciano, Sidney Samson, Quintino, and Afrojack. The opposing Swedish team consists of Sebastian Ingrosso, Alesso, Otto Knos, Adrian Lux, Dada Life, and AN21 — no word on why Steve or Axwell won’t be participating. The game itself will consist of two thirty-minute halves, and according to Tiesto’s Twitter stream, Cedric Gervais will be acting as the official. This event will not be open to the public, but hopefully we’ll be able to bring you some spy shots as it goes down at the mystery Miami location and fill you in on the details afterwards.

Deadmau5 hosting mau5trap party poolside at the Fontainebleau against Saturday of UMF

Deadmau5-Fontainebleau-Miami

Deadmau5 might not be headlining Ultra Music Festival this year, but that doesn’t mean he won’t get his time to shine on Saturday night. On the 24th, the infamous DJ and producer will play poolside at the Fontainebleau alongside Feed Me, Moguai, Steve Duda, and a new artist called The Frederik. This event is in addition to his ‘mau5hax‘ production-inclined outing with Beatport, and will probably be more along the lines of a standard Deadmau5 show. What we don’t know at this point is whether the show will be “unplugged” or if he’ll have Professional Griefers in tow — or a new production altogether. (We’re told the production at this venue on New Year’s was top notch, so consider our expectations high.) One thing is for sure though: making plans for Saturday just got a little bit more difficult — so make sure to check out our event guide to see all your options!

PS: If you can’t make it Saturday night, Deadmau5 will be playing Sunday at Amnesia as well.

Ultra Music Festival set times now available!

Ultra Music Festival

Ultra Music Festival is just five days away, and the official set times have just been posted in the UMF 2012 app. Whoming Stereo iEnlive was first to pick up on the news, and while we already knew about all the artists since the phase II announcement, we have to say we’re a little disappointed in the short set times given to most of the headliners. A quick glance at the main stage, for example, reveals that Afrojack will probably play only a 75 minute set, and that Skrillex will have a similar allotment. (You need to figure in change-over times between sets, especially before headliner Tiesto takes the stage at 10:30.) Folks like Madeon and Porter Robinson will only get 50 minutes, and David Guetta will play for just over an hour. We’ll let you peruse the times for yourselves below, but what do you think: Are UMF set times too short?

Update: iEnlive was first to publish this news, and our post has been updated accordingly.
