DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll voting extended after hacking attempts

DJ Mag Top 100

DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs has never been our favorite, but attempting to hack the thing is just downright wrong. It posted on its website that hackers tried to sabotage results through the Facebook voting application. Since the attacks made it difficult for last minute voters, the poll has been extended to end tonight at midnight GMT, which translates to 7PM on the East coast or 4PM Pacific. If amusing YouTube videos haven’t piqued your interest yet, maybe give them another shot while you still can.

Wolfgang Gartner gives MTV a tour of his new studio, we look on with envy

We may have taken you “Behind the Booth” with DJ Chuckie, but we haven’t quite made it into the studio with any of our favorite producers. MTV, however, was lucky enough to get invited into Wolfgang Gartner’s new home studio in LA, and they’ve shared the goods with us all in a nice little video. The quick tour reveals that the electro-house maestro uses Ableton Live as his DAW of choice (that’s digital audio workstation for the non-producers out there) as well as a sweet selection of new kit and old. We love getting sneak peeks behind the scenes of how music gets made, so, you know, hit us up if you’re interested.

Laidback Luke and the Devil from Acapulco at Dayglow Philadelphia, September 16, 2011 (review)

Dayglow-Laidback-Luke-600-006

Dayglow is the kind of musical experience that every self-proclaimed “partygoer” should have at least once. Picture a sea of rowdy teenagers dressed mostly in white, flashing lights, neon paint, and thumping hard house music and you can start to get an idea of what the thing is kind of about. Dayglow’s latest creation — the Blu Tour — came through Philadelphia for two nights last week, and we got to check it out when Laidback Luke was on the decks Friday. Wanna see what happens when you combine a little bit of dirty talk with a whole lot of paint and throw in the Devil from Acapulco just because you can? Click past the break.

Thomas Gold ‘Sing 2 Me’ premieres on BBC Radio 1 SHM-edition

Thomas-Gold-Size-Matters-Governors-Island-01

We thought we had a grip on all the new music from Swedish House Mafia’s Pete Tong Takeover, but this gem from Thomas Gold managed to slip through the cracks. “Sing 2 Me” is Thomas Gold’s latest piece of musical genius, and he continues his streak of exquisitely crafted tracks with awesome progressions and harmonious synths. We can’t wait to find out about when this will drop for reals, but we promise to share the news as soon as we hear it. You know how we do.

PS: Until then, feel free to enjoy the free “Judas” instrumental download, or “Alive,” or these nice pictures.

Thomas Gold takes us from New York to Miami, proves he’s still the man

We thought we did a decent job of filling you in on Steve Angello and Thomas Gold when they came to Governors Island a few weeks ago, but now there’s a recap posted to back yo our words. This awesomely entertaining video follows Thomas from New York down to Miami, where he performed poolside at the Fontainebleu the following day. In case you were wondering, yes, Thomas Gold is still the man.

Dirty South’s “Walking Alone” debuts as Essential New Tune in SHM’s Essential Selection takeover

One thing that comes with the territory when you take over Pete Tong’s Essential Selection is choosing the coveted “Essential New Tune.” The boys of SHM took the high road this time, selecting Dirty South’s “Walking Alone” as their ultimate track of the week (their own track “Antidote” was given an “Essential Contender” spot). Dirty’s latest offering is truly an essential masterpiece, and the vocals by Those Usual Suspects match the track perfectly. Listen to it for yourselves if you don’t believe us, but don’t be surprised when you start hearing this everywhere soon.

Swedish House Mafia debuts “Antidote” on BBC Radio 1, its new collaboration with Knife Party

swedish house mafia edc confetti

First Axwell played it at Papaya Festival, and then we thought it was called “Music Is The Answer,” but Swedish House Mafia has just officially unveiled its newest track — “Antidote.” Produced in collaboration with Knife Party (a side project from some of the Pendulum guys), the track is a hard-hitting, deep house production with elements that sound electro-y and yes, even some dubstep. We’re still looking for an official preview of the track, but for now check out a YouTube clip after the break!

SHM takes over BBC Radio 1 tonight, promises ‘something extra’ for the most loyal fans

Swedish House Mafia 23.09.11

Swedish House Mafia has just sent out a little reminder about their Essential Selection takeover on BBC Radio 1 tonight, and they promise “something extra” for their most loyal fans when 23.09 comes around next week. “To all of you who attended Brixton 2009 or M2 NYC 2010 we are trying to give you a little something extra around the announcements on 23.09.11,” they write. Along with the caveat “this won’t be easy but we’re going to try.”

We, of course, have our own theories about 23.09, and making promises to past ticket-holders at events in NYC and London certainly add weight to those Madison Square Garden / Milton Keynes Bowl rumors. The good news is that the show airs in just under two hours, so we’re that much closer to knowing for sure. Check out the full email text after the break.
