R3hab’s remix of Labrinth’s “Last Time” marks another departure from the young producer’s traditional sound. While he has garnered lots of attention for his signature “chainsaw madness,” we’re glad to see him changing it up — just like he did most recently with Adrian Lux’s “Fire.” Labrinth hasn’t quite caught on in the US like he has in the UK, but this remix employs powerful sweeping synths that show R3hab’s versatility as a producer. There’s no jarring drops or screeches to be found in this track, but rather melodic undertones that give the whole thing a sort of progressive-disco feel. Listen for yourselves below while we do our best to lock down a release date.
Third Party has become quite the elusive EDM act: it creates big-room bangers with alarming ease, but then proceeds to leave us EDM enthusiasts in the dark for months regarding crucial details such as release date and details. The group continues this trend with “Feel,” a collaboration with Cicada that has been popping up in sets for months now, most notably in AN21 and Max Vangeli’s incredible Essential Mix and Roseland Ballroom afterparty. Well, it’s finally getting an official release on Steve Angello’s Size Records March 12th, serving as a solid kick off to the festival season. Check out the official preview below, and do your best to sit tight for the next few weeks.
Tiesto is back with another episode of “In The Booth,” and this time we’re going to the Great White North — Canada. Appropriately, he kicks things off by playing a white party in Montreal with his hometime buddy Hardwell. The two bond over their shared 076 area code, and Hardwell even joins Tijs on stage where they drop the track together. Tiesto reflects on the love he’s received from the Canadian fans, enjoys some Starbucks, and then heads over to yet another arena for yet another show. We won’t keep you with our own recaps any longer — just push play and see for yourself.
Consider this your reminder: Swedish House Mafia Masquerade Motel Miami tickets for day two — Saturday, March 24th — will be on sale today at 10AM. Day one didn’t sell out in nine minutes like MSG, but we’re certain that tickets for this event will go nearly as quickly as for day one. In our opinion, the relatively weak lineup at Ultra Music Festival on Saturday makes this the prime day to see SHM, who will be joined by Alesso, Calvin Harris, AN21, Third Party, and NO_ID. Hit the link below to purchase tickets, sales open at 10AM!
Updated on 2-21-2012, 11:12am EST: Full Lineups now released!
Friday March 23rd: Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris, Alesso, Thomas Gold, Otto Knows, NO_ID
Saturday, March 24th: Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris, Alesso, AN21, Third Party, NO_ID
We can’t say we’re all that surprised, but Swedish House Mafia has just confirmed day two of Masquerade Motel Miami will take place on Saturday, March 24th. Tickets to day one went on sale Friday and sold out almost immediately, and the second day was added to keep up with demand. The information was confirmed in a Tweet from the guys, which also reveals that Calvin Harris and Alesso will be joining them on both days. More acts should be announced soon, and tickets will be on sale Tuesday February 21st at 10AM EST. Don’t miss your chance to buy tickets — you will regret it.
Update: According to the official ticket page, AN21, Third Party, and NO_ID will also be joining the lineup, with more to be announced soon.
Swedish House Mafia’s newest track is called “Greyhound” and the trio just debuted it officially on BBC Radio 1. Though we first heard it for ourselves at Madison Square Garden in December, they say they just finished it this morning and worked through the night to get it ready. Of course there’s no news on a release date, but listen to the MSG version below.
It’s official — sort of. Swedish House Mafia’s Masquerade Motel Miami will be held Friday March 23rd at Grand Central Park in downtown Miami. Not all that far from UMF’s new location at Bayfront Park, the venue is way more centrally-located than Haulover, not to mention legal. The event is all 21+ and tickets are going for a cool $100. SHM Originals get first dibs, with codes being e-mailed out imminently ahead of the official release tomorrow at 10AM EST. Just as with MSG — and pretty much every event since — we suggest being ready. These will be gone before you know it.
We have learned that Ultra Music Festival will be going global in 2012, adding more events and expanding to Europe and Asia while strengthening its presence in South America. Buenos Aires (Argentina), Ibiza (Spain), Warsaw (Poland), Seoul (South Korea), and Sao Paolo (Brazil) will all be getting Ultra Music Festivals of their own before 2012 comes to an end. A kind tipster sent us the video seen above, which uses footage from the awesome-looking UMF Brasil, and definitely has us excited about the possibilities for this new endeavor. A plan for global festival domination and the phase two lineup for UMF Miami? Not bad for a day’s work.
It’s taken long enough, but things are finally happening for Swedish House Mafia’s Masquerade Motel Miami 2012. A post on the trio’s Facebook page tells SHM Originals to “stay connected to your inboxes” for the next few hours, and doesn’t reveal much else. Our own sources, however, inform us that originals could be invited to purchase tickets as soon as today, and that a full-blown release will happen tomorrow, as expected. The hype around this event is nothing short of staggering: people are clamoring for tickets before the venue or even the date has been officially confirmed. It’s no wonder they sold out the Garden in 9 minutes.
Uh oh. We first reported a few weeks back that Bal Harbor Village was moving to block Swedish House Mafia’s Masquerade Motel, and now it seems that their permit has been officially denied by Miami-Dade County. The Miami Herald reports that SHM’s big event at Haulover Beach was actually part of a larger four day fashion-inspired offering called the Funkshion festival, and was anticipated to attract a whopping 25,000 attendees. Interestingly, the Miami New Times quotes a “source close to the event” as believing that the event will indeed go on. According to this person, “As far as I know, [Masquerade Motel] is still going on.”
We reached out to Swedish House Mafia’s camp ourselves but haven’t received any comment. It’s still completely possible that they are looking for a new venue, so all hope is not lost. We repeat: until Swedish House Mafia speaks on the record, we will continue to believe that the event will take place. The when and the where, however, are probably still up for discussion. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more — which better be soon. The clock is ticking… Oh, the irony.
Update: Good news folks: Axwell just Tweeted that Masquerade Motel “IS ON!!” Hopefully that means we’ll have a location, a date, and a time for ticket sales soon too.
Update: Swedish House Mafia have just alerted us via their Facebook page that tickets will go on sale this Friday. Those Swedes just love keeping us on our feet as they’re also urging us to stay tuned for more surprises. We’ll keep you updated as further information comes in.
