One of the biggest tracks of 2010 just got itself a music video. The video portrays a gruesome interpretation of America’s history, covering events like the Civil War to the Great Depression and World War II. I don’t know the story behind Illmerica the song, but the video would suggest that it’s a tribute to the violent spirit of the USA. Which do you prefer, the video or the song?
After spending several days in their Las Vegas studio, Steve Aoki and Afrojack decided to share a preview of their work online via Youtube. The song sounds like it has big potential and according to Steve Aoki “you guys are lucky because we’re not even done with it yet.” The best part of the video has to be at 38 seconds when Afrojack says “like I’m Sidney Samson” while trying to use the warp effects to replicate Sidney Samson nose structure. Release No Beef already! We’ve been waiting for that since February!
It’s a daunting task but we owe it to you to write about the best 50 songs of 2010. All countdowns are controversial, and you might disagree with some of the rankings but the Dancing Astronaut team got together and did our best job to represent your favorite songs of the year. We took many criteria into consideration such as reception on this blog, support from major DJs, success on Beatport, and of course quality of the song! We’ll post 10 songs a day until we get to #1 on New Years Eve. 2010 was an AMAZING year for electronic dance music. From all of us at Dancing Astronaut, N-joy!
Hardwell, the 22 year old rising superstar from Holland, had a breakout year in 2010. Hardwell has distinguished himself by combining the hard hitting dance floor beats from his Dirty Dutch brethren with the stadium Trance style of a more classic Dutch influence (Tiesto?). Hardwell has many years ahead of him and he will become a festival headliner if he maintains his current pace.
Here at Dancing Astronaut we think it is better to give AND receive than to just give. So when we got set up with press coverage for Laidback Luke’s show at Ruby Skye San Francisco on Jan 1st, New Years Day, we decided it would be better if our friends and family could come too… and by family we mean YOU. We will be giving away 3 pairs of tickets to go see Laidback Luke at Ruby Skye on Jan 1st. All you have to do is comment on this post saying you’d like the tickets and we will pick 3 people to award the pairs of tickets to. Contest closes December 28th at Noon Pacific time. We will announce the winner and give you your tickets no later than Noon December 29th. Happy Holidays!

Brand new mixtape from Chuckie and Dirty Dutch Records. I’ve got to say I’m really impressed with this one, I can already see some evolution in the Dirty Dutch sound. It sounds like elements of progressive house are getting melded into the mix. A trend you’re starting to see with Afrojack and Chuckie is that their tracks switch back and forth from Progressive to Dutch inside the same song. Prime examples are Chuckie and Gregori Klosman’s Irresistable Remix and Afrojack’s Take Over Control. My early favorites on this mixtape are R3hab and Furruccio Salvo’s ‘Pump the Party,’ Promised Land’s ‘Move it to the Drum Remix,’ and Simon Gain & Joey Seminara’s ‘Booster.’
