Maison & Dragen (formerly known as Marcus Maison & Will Dragen – their full names) create a rolling progressive hosue tune called “Rio De Janeiro.” This track uses a much deeper and tech oriented sound than their previous work that was usually very Avicii-esque. Rio is one of the craziest cities in the world to party in and we feel this track does the city justice. Maison & Dragen are primed for a big 2012 and were vastly underrated this past year, even though they had some big releases (think: “Excalibur” and “Digital Freedom“).

Fact (2): “The Moment” and “Anima” are full blown anthems.
Fact (3): “I Can’t Help Myself” is one of the most underrated tunes of the year.
“Anima” has been featured in An21 and Max Vangeli’s essential mix and Thomas Gold’s Escape From Wonderland set (two of the best sets this year). Tim Mason has an uncanny ability to end the year with a bang. Last year everyone caught a whiff of “The Moment” when Steve Angello premiered it in his Roseland Ballroom show, and this year he releases “Anima” a day before NYE. Needless to say, ringing in the new year just got a bit more fun.

The winners of Tiesto’s “Work Hard, Play Hard” remix competition, Paris FZ and Simo T, are back at it again with “Aura.” This time around they feature a name change to a shortened version of just “Paris & Simo.” They have joined forces with Mark Mendes who previously collaborated with Thomas Gold on their remix of Adele’s “Someone Like You.” “Aura” is a stunning progressive tune that uses a vide variety of lead synths and a great build up to lead you into a goosebump creating drop. Be on the lookout for these two youngsters – they are part of the Revealed family and are looking to do big things in the near future.

We are arriving at the portion of our list where every song has to appear on the list because it is too damn good not to be mentioned. All these tracks were played with overwhelming frequency no matter what EDM event you went to. While some of you may disagree with the ranking itself, you cannot argue with the quality of each track listed below. Just in case you feel that something is missing from this list, make sure to glance over our list of biases, before ripping us apart. 30-21 awaits you below.
Darwin, Backwall, and DBN combine forces to create “Gimme Gimme” a track which features a soothing bassline and dance-able distortions. The spiritual build up combined with the uplifting vocals are made for a high energy environment. This preview features the entire package – fully equipped with the original mix, Tom Novy & Jashari’s remix, and Alex Lamb’s version. We are most excited for Alex Lamb’s rendition, not only is it the most club friendly out of the group, but the bass is the heaviest so it just thumps your eardrums when playing it on your headphones.
Jerry Rekonius follows up his powerful “Powahbunga” with “10th” a Swanky Tunes-esque progressive tune. In the beginning of the teaser you hear that distinct “Steam Gun” sound, but things slowly simmer down just in time for the build up. Soon after, the lead synths kick in and then the rocking drop gives you an incredible ‘hands in the air’ moment. DA has been impressed with Oxygen Recordings recently (a subsidiary of Spinnin Records), they are definitely the dark horse contender for best progressive label of 2012. Keep the name Jerry Rekonius in the back of your mind, when this kid starts releasing tune after tune you can tell your friends – “I told you so.”
Special Features has won the Dada Life “Happy Violence” remix contest, and is currently making us wonder “is this the best one yet.” Initially, Swanky Tunes, Kaskade, and Caveat all came out with their versions, however, we were partial towards the original vocal mix. Now Special Features screws up our team continuity by releasing this kick ass tune. Do yourself a favor and give his remixes of Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close” and Deadmau5′ “Strobe” a chance, prepare to be blown away.

This was Kaskade’s last Music Monday mash up released yesterday. “All That Disaster” features Kaskade’s and Mindy Gledhill’s track “All That You Give” meshed with Laidback Luke & Example’s “Natural Disaster.” Mindy has worked with Kaskade quite a bit, her vocals have also been featured on “Eyes” and “Call Out.” Kaskade is playing at White Wonderland for New Years Eve and we have a sneaky feeling he will drop “All That Disaster” in his set. Is it just us or does Kaskade have an uncanny ability of playing hard right when we need him to?
This time last year Afrojack released “Lost & Found Part 1,” this album series features tracks that Afrojack has been dropping throughout his sets but have been previously unreleased. Some are updated versions of older releases, some are named after popular cities, and the others show potential – but are not up to the Afrojack standard we have come to love. Let’s discuss each track below.
Montreal is one of the techiest tracks we have ever heard from Afrojack. There are patches of Dutch funk scattered throughout the tune, but it lacks the power of an enormous drop a la “Replica.” We think Afrojack used this as a transitionary track to let the crowd regain their composure after a ‘hands in the air’ moment.
