Have you heard of ResLive.com yet? If not, be prepared for a sort of mix between Second Life, World of Warcraft, and your choice of nightclub (or beach party). ResLive is a virtual music world that has already attracted some big-name talent for its virtual concerts: Jody Wisternoff played today, and in the near future both John Dahlback and Max Vangeli will be putting on shows.
Characters in ResLive are fully animated and come with an arsenal of dance moves, the majority of which are actually pretty lively. Of course, you have the standard WASD/arrow key for movement, but a particularly enticing feature is the ability to fly from locale to locale. Just today I had the chance to “break it down” (a move in the dance catalog) with fellow clubber Pineapple_grl_1. We chatted a bit about the music, but before long her friends had to fly her away. And off into the sky she went.
Being honest, I don’t think that virtual club life destinations like ResLive are going to pose any serious threat to brick and mortar establishments. Actual body movements (i.e. dancing), true face-to-face interactions with fellow lovers of house music, and perhaps most saliently, a club’s booming sound system are inimitable.
But it’s going to be very interesting to see where projects like this lead. Already I foresee the rise of digital high rollers: users who fork over actual money for electronic currency that can be used to purchase perks such as flashy clothing, bottle service, VIP tickets, and immediate entrance into the venue.
Of course, such talk is speculative at this point. But we shouldn’t be too surprised if, and when, it happens.
Here’s a fun video of David Guetta, DJ Chuckie, Martin Solveig, Laidback Luke and Arias & Arno Cost singing along to the infectiously good track “The Days to Come“.
Max Vangeli and Thomas Gold, both rising stars and SIZE Records phenoms, sat down with us in Miami. Check out what they had to say about Ultra, Masquerade Motel, and which DJ they’re going to be keeping an eye out for as the next big thing.
Nervous Records is at it again, introducing NYC audiences to some of the hottest house music on the planet. This time the Nervous crew is bringing the UK wonder team of Prok & Fitch to Cielo on Sunday, April 24 for an evening of all-things house - from progressive to straight up banging. It’s Prok & Fitch’s NYC debut, so they’ll be packed with weapons and bombs and a big cache of reserves to attack the little Meatpacking District gem.
Tipped by the UK dance media as “One To Watch,” Prok & Fitch have been signed to some of the biggest names in the business: Axwell’s Axtone, Toolroom Records, CR2, Stealth and more. With serious and diverse support from the likes of Steve Angello, Paul Van Dyk and Carl Cox, there’s few clubs worldwide which haven’t witnessed the Prok & Fitch reaction.
The scene: Ruby Skye, San Francisco. The big players: Dada Life. And play they did, rocking the house with some swanky tunes. Check out more of Dancing Astronaut’s exclusive video coverage and interviews on our YouTube Channel.
For those of you who happened to miss out on the terrific Anjunabeats in Miami party (at Ice Palace), we were able to snap a few pictures. A&B, Kyau & Albert, Super8 & Tab, John Dahlback, Jody Wisternoff, and Gabriel and Dresden all made an appearance. It was a phenomenal show, so be sure to check out the gallery.

Following in the footsteps of UMF, E-zoo has expanded to 3 full days of musical delight. Though it’s still relatively young, this festival doesn’t play around: last year’s talent included Afrojack, Axwell, ATB, Benny Benassi, the Chemical Brothers, Chuckie, Steve Aoki, and many more. With the aftermath of Miami still fresh in our minds, we’re here to report on the biggest tracks of Miami Music Week. The song selection represents three factors: frequency (how many times the track was played), crowd reaction, and the overall quality of the tune.

Why it was big: Russian House Mafiosi Swanky Tunes have been all over the place in 2011. So many of their productions are just spot-on, and their frequent collaborations with fellow Russians Hard Rock Sofa more often than not culminate in killer tracks. We wish that we heard this track more than we did.
If Miami hasn’t worn you out already, get ready for Friday. The sunrise brings with it the first day of the Ultra Music Festival, which by the looks of things, is shaping up to be a first-round KO.
