Bassjackers took over New York’s Terminal 5 a few weeks back for a night of wompy electro madness. We were there to capture all the action on video, and have this lovely recap to share with you all. Don’t be taken aback by the proliferation of light-up Medusa wigs intense amounts of fist-pumping — just push play.
As an act of condolence for those spending Valentine’s day alone, Jerry Rekonius thoughtfully served up this free bootleg of M83′s “Midnight City” on his SoundCloud page. While we thought Eric Prydz’s remix of this track was the pinnacle, Jerry brings us a very respectable progressive house version of the popular indie song. After big original tracks like “Powahbunga” and “10th,” we’ve come to expect this level of production from the young Swede.
17 year old Swede Adam Björnberg has just released his latest bigroom synth-laden track “Libella” on Zouk Recordings. A follow up to his October 2011 release of “Absolut,” this song features a funky chord progression and a punchy drop. Already garnering support from the likes of Tiesto and Avicii, Björnberg certainly has a bright future if he can keep cranking out high energy tracks like this.

The original mix of Zedd’s “Stars Come Out” was a genuine pleasure to hear — the kind of tasteful, bassy electro that rumbles your chest and tickles your eardrums. The remix package, which is out today on Dim Mak, features five wildly different interpretations of the original’s core elements. Which one should you buy? Click past the break for our analysis.(more…)
American electro producer Lucky Date gave us an extended preview of his upcoming track “I Want You” and a cool teaser video today. Featuring a hypnotizing vocal sample and a heavy electro drop, this track will without a doubt destroy dancefloors when it’s released next week on Big Fish Recordings. Check out the video and head over to Soundcloud for the longer listen.
One of our favorite things about Nero’s productions is the way the boys seamlessly integrate elements of their dubstep/drum & bass roots with disparate elements from other genres. Case in point: “Must Be The Feeling” matches the slightest low-end bass with an upbeat 90s vibe and Alana Watson’s sugary-sweet vocals. Joining forces with fellow dubstep producer Flux Pavilion, Nero’s “Must Be The Feeling” remix retains the melodic elements of the original while layering in some gritty bass and, of course, a huge drop. Have a listen to the remix above, and look out for its release March 4th – remixes from Azari & III, Kill The Noise, Brookes Brothers and SebastiAn will make their debuts as well.
On the heels of his successful and highly-touted “Generation 303” release, Nicky Romero is already back with a preview for his remix of “Give Me All Your Luvin.’” The Dutch producer takes Madonna’s sugary-sweet pop track and turns it into a devilish electro demon. The song starts off slow but builds into a techy-electro drop using well-developed synths and a lively bass line. Romero doesn’t seem to have any plans for slowing down and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next as each production is different from the last. This type of versatility lends itself to a long and successful career — we hope he keeps it up.
When you hear Pete Tong’s voice at the beginning of a track it’s generally indicative that it will be good. Wolfgang Gartner’s remix of “Paddling Out” by Miike Snow continues this trend. We posted Jacques Lu Cont’s remix a couple of days ago, but Gartner’s take on the song is different and employs a more aggressive bassline. Gartner strays from his usual sounds on this remix, opting for more progressive sounding synths and a melodic bass line. Which remix do you prefer?
After the release of Pierce’s wildly successful “Pardon My French” EP it was easy to categorize him as a tech-progressive producer, however, his latest release “Who Wants Spaghetti?” proves that Pierce can accompany a splash of electro into his arsenal as well. It seems as though this youngster is going on an all out assault just in time for Miami Music Week, he just released a promotional video along with opening for Tiesto during his residency at the Wynn Hotel. The ceiling is high for Pierce, but there is no doubt that he will be able to handle the different pressures and expectations that are firmly planted on his shoulders.

Mat Zo has finally released his highly anticipated “The Bipolar EP” on Anjunabeats. While “Bipolar” may be the marquee track from this package, the others are more than adequate at cleansing your big room trance palette. Let’s get into the details of each of the four tracks below.
Mat Zo – Ring On It (Original Mix)
Mat Zo has an interesting way of blending various elements of trance with the sensitive progressive house that is very mainstream at the moment. We were pleasantly surprised about the drop, which features many bleeps, but not the kind that the Dutch artists feed off of. It is nice to see the coming together of multiple noises — only the most talented producers can pull this off.
