Aba & Simonsen’s “Soul Bossa Nova” gets a heavy dose of ‘jungle’ injected into the bass line courtesy of Chuckie and Mastiksoul. The creator of original, Quincy Jones, made this unique and groovy track way back in the 60s.
“Soul Bossa Nova” caught fire in the US when it became the theme song for the popular Austin Powers movie series. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard a Chuckie and Mastiksoul collaboration, they’ve worked together before on the track “Body Move,” which was released on the popular Dirty Dutch compilation. With releases such as “Together” and “F U Betta” gaining traction, it looks like Chuckie is about to create some serious waves this year as we get into the thick of things in February. Those of you that reside in San Francisco should check out Chuckie’s performance at Ruby Skye on the 11th.

Chris Lake’s “Sundown” was a sexy, moody progressive house track that, as the best songs often do, transported listeners away from their desks, dance floors, wherever. His first release of 2012, “Build Up,” has that same transcendent power. Vocals from Gita Lake (Chris’ wife!) are deep and hypnotic, and a driving beat only heightens the feeling. The brief post-drop snippet of the song we hear in the preview marks a new direction for Lake: rather than sticking to something more atmospheric, the sound is more chainsaw madness meets Tommy Trash synth. It’s only natural, then, that TT is lending his formidable talents to a “Build Up” remix. Have a listen to the original below, and click past the break to hear Tommy Trash’s remix. Both versions drop February 7th on Ultra Records.
We have to be honest: we had never heard the original “Ass Back Home” when we got wind of this Ken Loi remix. It’s typical Top 40 fare: generic rapping and a sugary-sweet Neon Hitch chorus over a reggae-infused beat. Nothing special, and certainly nothing we’d ever feature on DA. But any track with Ken’s name attached to it deserves a listen, and we’re glad we gave his “Ass Back Home” remix a chance. As usual, the piano melody is flawless, and a big build sets up a euphoric drop. The remix is a perfect way to introduce your musically-challenged friends to Ken’s considerable progressive house talents. Check out the preview below and pick up the full remix on Fueled by Ramen Records February 14th.
Sometimes a track just leaves you completely speechless – and as we sat here desperately trying to come up with some novel way of describing the pure aural sex that is “L’Amour” – we realized that this was one of those times.
Everything the Bingo Players have done in the last year has found a permanent home on our computers and in our heads – their ability to create simple yet infectious beats is unmatched. As die hard Daft Punk fans, the “Robot Rock”-esque beat brings us back to the days when Alive 2007 was the only thing we listened to for months on end.
We think “L’Amour” could be the best Bingo Players track to date. February 20th cannot come soon enough — we need this track now.
Ever since we’ve caught wind of Carl Louis and Martin Danielle’s remix of Max Vangeli’s “Look Into Your Heart” we’ve known they were going to be something special. These Norwegians prefer the piano as their weapon of choice and they wield it extremely well. These guys have put out quality productions for more than a year now and they are primed for an exciting take off in the near future. “Within You” provides us with a rolling bassline fully equipped with Hardwell-esque synths. Their time is now and DA fully supports them in all their efforts.

The Astronauts were lucky enough to see Trent Cantrelle play a set this New Years Eve at White Wonderland. He played an unbelievable deep tech house set that went longer than initially intended due to the absence of Kaskade. We were fully aware of the remixes that Trent had done for the Manufactured Superstars (“Serious” and “Drunk Text“), however, we heard a bunch of stuff that we couldn’t quite put our fingers on. One of the those previously unheard of tunes was “Night Like This,” which came out today on Beatport. If you love smooth and mesmerizing tech house get yourself accustomed to Trent’s style.

Arno Cost and Norman Doray have been known to collaborate on many tracks like “Better Days” and “Lady In The Air.” This time around DA favorite, Laidback Luke, joins the crew to create “Trilogy.” While this may be considered ‘soft’ for most Laidback Luke productions it is still an impressive progressive track that is sure to be a favorite with all house music consumers. The chant in the background reminds us of the acapella version of “Blau!” Luke has been known to sample voices and incorporate them into the bassline. We hope this trio continues to produce more tunes, because this amount of talent in one studio session is bound to create multiple gems.
If you’ve been following along with Tiesto’s “In The Booth” series so far, you know that we’ve already spanned multiple continents, been in Breda, Vegas, and Miami, and jetted around the world in the Tijs’ jet. This episode starts off at the monstrous Inox Festival in Paris, where manager Kelly Cobb gives some welcomed advice on the dangers of smoking.
Nearly just as soon as he lands in France, Tiesto’s back on the jet headed to Morocco for round two in the same night. Regardless of a forgotten jacket, he next heads to Ibiza, which is “nothing like [anything] throughout the world.” It shows a good bit of behind-the-scenes at Privilege, which is the largest club in the world and Tiesto’s home on the White Isle. Is it just us, or does mainstream TV desperately need a DJ lives reality TV show?
Avicii’s House for Hunger Tour showed the producer’s charitable side, but anyone can write a check and call it a day (sort of). MTV tagged along with Avicii and his executive producer Ash Pournouri as they paid a visit to a New York City rescue mission to deliver food to some of the people they set out to help. Tim and Ash serve food to the people who come, pack bags to be sent out remotely, and generally participate in the goings-on of the rescue mission. Ash talks about the importance of sharing success, and Avicii implores people to come help out for themselves. If you’d like to donate to House For Hunger, click the link below.
“Ladi Dadi” marks the second single to be released off of Aoki’s Wonderland. The remix package was released today with remixes from heavy hitters such as Angger Dimas, Autoerotique, and Tommy Trash. The one name that may be relatively new to everyone is Pixel Cheese, a young Polish producer who recently rose to fame due to a few unofficial remixes and bootlegs. Let’s dive into the details of the entire package after the jump.
Note: Is Ultra Records on fire or what? They are also releasing Adrian Lux’s new track “Fire.” Keep up the good work guys — see you at the end of March!
