Nocturnal Wonderland Recovery Party at Playhouse Hollywood with Alesso and Dirty South (video highlights)

Still craving more from the surreal weekend of Insomniac’s annual Nocturnal Wonderland Festival, hundreds of hungry fans flocked to the Playhouse in Hollywood for the official Recovery Party featuring none other than Alesso. One of the hottest new producers and DJs hailing from Sweden and signed onto Sebastian Ingrosso’s Refune Records, Alesso had  The Playhouse jumping from the beginning.

Dirty South took the stage alongside Alesso for a good part of the night, after being introduced by his hit remix of “Coming Home.” Alesso lifted the whole sunset strip off the ground by dropping banger after banger. The Playhouse regular, Elmo,  showed up with his cold smoke gun, which he swayed back and forth over the hundreds of people raging on the dance floor. We’ve been talking up the Playhouse for sometime now. They throw out-of-this-world parties and have been booking some of the best talent in the industry. Check out all the photos on our Facebook and see the recap video above.

Avicii at Nocturnal Wonderland Day 1: 5 tracks you need to know

IMG_3984

Sure Avicii sat atop a giant kaleidoscopeic cube at Alice’s House, but our minds are still flashing with neon glowing bunnies, electric pandas, bikini-clad girls, and lots and lots of sunglasses. But Avicii could have been sitting on top of the world for all he cared. The energy levels were off the charts as he tore through his set Friday night at Nocturnal Wonderland in San Bernadino, California. Read on to hear (and see) how it went down.

Bassjackers at Nocturnal Wonderland Day 2 – 5 tracks you need to know

bassjackers

If you haven’t heard the Bassjackers banger “Mush Mush” yet, you’re either deaf, living under a rock, or both. The track got huge support from Tiesto, was arguably the song of EDC, and has been played relentlessly at festivals all summer. Seriously, it’s been impossible to escape.

While only one member of the Bassjackers duo performed the Queens Ground stage at this year’s Nocturnal Wonderland, the thumping, bass-driven set was one of the highlights of the entire festival. Here are the 5 tracks you need to know.

1. PerryEtty – Applause for You (Bassjackers Remix)

Dirty Dutch may not be for everyone, but it’s hard not to like this one. A filthy blend of blares and bass.

2. Randy Santino – Hydrogen (Bassjackers Remix)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This track is built on such a solid, almost tribal house beat that we would love it even if the drop wasn’t so outrageously big. Whomp.

3. Ferry Corsten – Check it Out (Bassjackers Remix)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Bassjackers’ remix of trance legend Ferry Corsten’s “Check it Out” adds a heavy house drop that’s perfect for those who lack the patience for the 7-minute original mix.

4. Dada Life – White Noise/Red Meat (Bassjackers Remix)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Bassjackers’ remix hits harder than Dada Life’s original mix. Blasphemous but true.

5. The Wanted – Glad You Came (Bassjackers Dub)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This song is everything that we love about Dirty Dutch – a combination between distorted bleeps, beautiful vocals, tasteful piano melodies, seductive synths, and a drop that hits  your chest as hard as it hit your eardrums. If we didn’t know this remix was by Bassjackers, we might have assumed it was Afrojack’s (it reminds us that much of Take Over Control).

Nocturnal Wonderland 2011: What worked, what didn’t, and how to improve for next year

crowdcontrol

The dust has settled, the glowsticks have gone dark, and thousands of EDM fans across Southern California have been forced to accept the fact that Nocturnal Wonderland is officially over. Over the next week, we’ll be ignoring the ringing in our ears to bring you full coverage of the festival, including the standout performances and the tracks you need to know about.

Our colleagues at digi10ve recently ranked Insomniac Events’ founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella 4th on their list of the 15 most influential people in the EDM industry. However, particularly here on the West Coast of the United States, we’d have to put the Insomniac boss at #1. Insomniac sets the standard for event production this side of Ultra, and the company has almost single-handedly brought EDM to the masses. But that doesn’t mean they’re perfect — though they do have a pretty stellar track record. Read on to hear what worked and what didn’t at this year’s Nocturnal Wonderland. (more…)

Nocturnal Wonderland pick of the day: Dirty South, 2 days left!

Dirty South at Pacha 15

Amidst the storm of drum, bass, and head-knocking drops this weekend at Nocturnal Wonderland there will be our good old friend, Dirty South. Although you can compare them to a so-called “calm before a storm,” his delicately constructed build-ups and ingeniously simple drops will be thrust into the middle of the madness on the main stage at Nocturnal Wonderland. From his remix of “Coming Home” to his Grammy nominated remix of “Sweet Disposition” with Axwell,  his set is sure to be a staple at this years event and you’ll be sorry if you miss it! Just see our recap from Electric Zoo if you need convincing.

“Cameras ready, prepare to flash.” You’ve probably heard those words hundreds of times this year, but for some reason, they never get old. Why? Because they’re followed by one of the most thunderous drops in all of house music. If you haven’t heard the massive Nicky Romero remix to Green Velvet’s “Flash” pounding out of obscenely loud festival speakers, please don’t miss it at Nocturnal. (Not that you’ll probably be able to…)
