One week remains until the release of Illenium‘s highly-anticipated sophomore album Awake. The Denver-based producer, whose real name is Nick Miller, has become a melodic mastermind in only few short years time. The Awake LP, out on Kasaya/Seeking Blue, will almost assuredly nestle him alongside the likes of Seven Lions and Flume as a future bass tastemaker.

Of course, Miller has been steadily releasing singles off the new album since February, with the Nevve-assisted track “Fractures,” the co-produced hit with Gryffin, “Feel Good,” “Sound of Walking Away” and, most recently, “Crawl Outta Love.” Now Illenium has surprised fans with the seventh track from the album, titled “Leaving,” an emotional ballad that pulls all his previous releases together into a more cohesive story.

“Leaving” begins as a low-tempo indie-rock ballad that utilizes Illenium’s signature budding builds over beautiful piano chords and energetic drum kicks, with vocals from what many of his fanbase are speculating to belong to Irish artist EDEN. The track is built around the emotional first drop, which harpoons back to Miller’s early days of production with “So Wrong” and “Chosen You,” forcing the listener with no other choice but letting go.
