Design a T-Shirt for Steve Aoki’s Dead Meat Tour, win crazy prizes

steve aoki t-shirt banner

Despite having been in the biz for nearly 15 years, Steve Aoki has never released his own artist album. It’s only fair then that he’s going big for the January 10th release of his album Wonderland and the accompanying Dead Meat Tour; and he wants you to be a part of it all. In celebration of the tour, Aoki is inviting artists to design a t-shirt to be sold on the road, with the winning designer getting a slew of Aoki merch and a meet-and-greet with the bearded man himself. Think you’ve got what it takes? Click past the break for full details — designs are due January 24th.

Video Recap: A-Trak at Madison Square Garden

Lost in all the hoopla that was SHM at MSG, was A-Trak’s sensational opening performance. Here’s the official video showcasing his word class skills and some behind the scene moments with Jacques Lu Cont and Swedish Hosue Mafia.

Interesting little side note.  It appears A-Trak, who’s long been endorsed by Serato and served as a Beta tester, has made the switch from Scratch Live to Traktor. A bit of a shocker, no?

Tickets for EDC 2012 are now on sale!

EDC_TypeOnly2011

Last June, Insomniac Events set the standard against which dance music festivals in the United States will forever be measured. EDC 2011 was a revelation and an inspiration. It also made history as the largest dance event ever held on this continent.

The Electric Daisy Carnival will return to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Friday June 8th, Saturday June 9th, and Sunday June 10th 2012. While EDC is traditionally held on the final weekend of June, we’re hoping the earlier date will mean cooler temperatures in the scorching Nevada desert.

Three-day general admission ($229) and VIP ($500) tickets can be purchased through the EDC web site. Cost-conscious fans will be glad to hear that layaway tickets are also available. The layaway option allows you to split the ticket price into two, three, four, or five separate payments.

We hope to see you all there. This is the raver’s Christmas, and if you’re reading this post, you won’t want to miss it.

Justice – On’n'On (Brodinski Remix)

justice-ep-cover-on-n-on-brodinski

We can’t get enough of Brodinski. Amidst lots of stale releases recently, his sound stays remarkably fresh. From noisy techno to bass heavy house to indie dance, this French producer has been impressing us time and time again.

While Justice gears up to drop the On’n'On EP via Ed Banger Records at the end of January, Brodinski’s takes a swing at “On’n'On” hitting this one out of the park. By replacing the original’s strings with a wonky bass line and robotic vocals he successfully injects some much needed energy into the slow-paced original.

Ostbahnhof & Ugo Platana – Evensong (Michael Woods Remix)

Michael-Woods-Pacha-2

Michael Woods comes out with an acidic remix of Ostbahnhof and Ugo Platana’s “Evensong.” This is much harder than what we have normally come to hear from Michael, but it should do well in a club setting. The slow build up at around 3:25 gets you primed for another great drop, which has been Michael’s go to move recently – he used a similar type of transition period in “Last Day On Earth.” We can’t wait until the UK based DJ makes another US swing so we can see his crowd engaging ways yet again.

Bonus: Ostbahnhof & Ugo Platana – Evensong (Original Mix)

The original mix is definitely a very chill tune when compared to Michael Woods’ crazy rendition. The progressive chords are great for lounging around and enjoying sounds rather than melodies. This is very Deadmau5-esque – slow and elegant. We are partial towards Michael’s remix, however, we can definitely see people bobbing to the original mix.

Swedish House Mafia Masquerade Motel Miami tickets on sa… oh wait… bait and switch!

Those crazy Swedes have done it again. We anxiously waited at our computers this morning, refreshing MasqueradeMotel.com again and again, watching the clock tick down to zero… and then negative 1 minute… and then negative 5 minutes. Finally, we were greeted by the above video with a link to “Get Started!,” only to be taken to Swedish House Mafia’s Facebook page. Yes, we’re pissed too. This morning’s hype seems to be a ploy for Facebook friends, rather than the fateful sale of Masquerade Motel tickets. Actual tix will go on sale January 11th for the group’s Facebook fans, and January 13th for everyone else (but who isn’t their Facebook fan at this point?). We’ll keep you updated when we hear more – but for now, we’re pretty sure we all just got mind-fucked.

Avicii rings in 2012 on the waterfront: 5 tracks you need to know

WEB_IMG_232222012-pier94-avicii-nye

Among all the movers and shakers putting on shows this New Year’s eve in New York City, Avicii and his backers at Pacha New York and At Night delivered the flashiest. Clad in something other than his signature plaid for just one night, Tim Bergling delivered a peformance that, like his choice of wardrobe, left some things at home and brought others to the table.

Check out the five biggest tracks of the night after the break.

Sidney Samson – Hold Up (Original Mix)

hold up

Sidney Samson had a massive 2011 highlighted by releases including “Mutate,” “Music Box,” and his remix of “Turbulence.” The Dutch DJ/Producer is already off to a good start in 2012 with his latest track, “Hold Up,” released yesterday on Rock The Houze records. Featuring a hypnotizing progressive intro leading into a heavy chainsaw synth, this track is sure to destroy clubs around the world.
