Tim Mason – Anima (Original Mix)

tim-mason-anima-anthem

Fact: Tim Mason is great.

Fact (2): “The Moment” and “Anima” are full blown anthems.

Fact (3): “I Can’t Help Myself” is one of the most underrated tunes of the year.

“Anima” has been featured in An21 and Max Vangeli’s essential mix and Thomas Gold’s Escape From Wonderland set (two of the best sets this year). Tim Mason has an uncanny ability to end the year with a bang. Last year everyone caught a whiff of “The Moment” when Steve Angello premiered it in his Roseland Ballroom show, and this year he releases “Anima” a day before NYE. Needless to say, ringing in the new year just got a bit more fun.

Dancing Astronaut Presents The Biggest Tracks of 2011: 20 – 11

da_top50b

If you ever sit down and write a list like this of your own (we don’t recommend it unless you like being called names,) you will find that it is easier to name the tracks that are higher on the list, but they also become exponentially harder to rank. Everyone can agree what the biggest tracks of the year were, but how can you say which was bigger than the next? In the 50s and 40s, it’s hard to distinguish between the 49th biggest tune and 42nd.  But now, as we approach the top 10 tracks of 2011, the ranking becomes much more relevant. Take a look at our list of biases which set the  ground rules for how we were going to conduct our ranking system then continue past the break to see our picks for 20 -11.

Mark Mendes, Paris & Simo – Aura (Original Mix)

Mark-Mendes-Paris-FZ-Simo-T-Aura

The winners of Tiesto’s “Work Hard, Play Hard” remix competition, Paris FZ and Simo T, are back at it again with “Aura.” This time around they feature a name change to a shortened version of just “Paris & Simo.” They have joined forces with Mark Mendes who previously collaborated with Thomas Gold on their remix of Adele’s “Someone Like You.” “Aura” is a stunning progressive tune that uses a vide variety of lead synths and a great build up to lead you into a goosebump creating drop. Be on the lookout for these two youngsters – they are part of the Revealed family and are looking to do big things in the near future.

Thomas-Gold-Size-Matters-Governors-Island-03

Thomas Gold has had quite the standout year, and we’ve enjoyed being at some of his most epic shows to appreciate his DJing skills live. To close out 2011, he’s giving away a huge edit called “Turnbulence Mutfakta Flashback,” combining three great tracks into one nice free download. We’ll admit that we haven’t heard this one for ourselves live, but we have no doubt that it’ll be a solid addition to his sets that already leverage his seemingly never-ending collection of quality, inventive bootlegs. We’ve got this one for you a little early thanks to Thomas himself, so grab the exclusive download below.

Dancing Astronaut Presents The Biggest Tracks of 2011: 30-21

da_top50b

We are arriving at the portion of our list where every song has to appear on the list because it is too damn good not to be mentioned. All these tracks were played with overwhelming frequency no matter what EDM event you went to. While some of you may disagree with the ranking itself, you cannot argue with the quality of each track listed below. Just in case you feel that something is missing from this list, make sure to glance over our list of biases, before ripping us apart. 30-21 awaits you below.

Coucheron releases self titled EP on Big Beat / Atlantic Records

coucheron

Coucheron recently put together our 33rd installment of the Dancing Astronaut Podcast and we’ve been waiting for his EP to drop ever since. At 17 years old, this young Norwegian is going to put his hometown of Asker on the map.

Citing inspiration from the German duo Spencer & Hill, Coucheron developed his own unique style of sugar-coated electro-house. Fun and poppy, his debut EP on Big Beat / Atlantic Records is an incredible achievement for someone so young.  Both songs on this two track release are artfully produced and delicately balanced with melodic synths and electro-house beats.

Check out the original mix of “Outrageous” after the break, and then grab this prodigy’s EP on Beatport.  You won’t be disappointed.
