Nicky Romero – Toulouse (Original Mix)

nicky-romero

Where do we begin? First of all – if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area you need to be at Nicky Romero and Hard Rock Sofa’s show at Space 550 for NYE. Nicky Romero has been on an absolute fucking tear and it has nothing to do with “Camera’s Ready Prepare To Flash.” “Haters Gonna Hate” was dropped by Dada Life last Friday and the crowd went bonkers, his “Titanium” remix also pumped some serious energy into the original bassline. Nicky shows off even more of his talents with his release of “Toulouse” a track that infuses nifty progressive chords with a drop that will leave your skull pounding. Listen with the volume turned up to the max in order to make your bones rattle.

Swedish House Mafia at Madison Square Garden: the biggest night of dance music in NYC — ever

SHM-MSG-031

We first started hearing rumors of a Swedish House Mafia New York event in late summer, and as time went on we kept getting the sense that something big was in the works. First it was a cryptic website with seemingly-random numbers, and then it was scrambled codes showing up in SHM liveshows, but it wasn’t until the trio confirmed the news themselves on a special SHM takeover of Pete Tong’s Essential Selection on BBC Radio 1: Swedish House Mafia would be playing Madison Square Garden.

Ever since then we’ve been (im)patiently awaiting the trio’s arrival to New York City, and trying to figure out exactly what they would have in store. We knew that they would be pulling out all the stops, but tons of lights, tons of fans, and tons of music combined to be something more than we could’ve imagined. Swedish House Mafia took the Garden — and NYC in general — by storm, and we’ve got a full recap of exactly how the night went down.

Relive Swedish House Mafia’s Set at Madison Square Garden (Part 2)

Shit just got a hell of a lot better. Initially we brought you SHM’s live set for you to listen and download, however, this time around you get the video version of MSG. Fuse Live did an excellent job of filming such a historic night and really captured the show for all of us who couldn’t witness the show live. Initially, we thought Deadmau5′ opening was the best in the business, however, Swedish House Mafia just next leveled that with their opening at MSG. Our only complaint – why does it seem like the people up in the nosebleed’s are going crazier than the people with the GA floor seats? C’mon folks, work out your calf muscles and get your asses jumping!

Starkillers & Nadia Ali – Keep It Coming (Preview)

nadia ali

After their success together with the massive hit “Pressure” – Starkillers and Nadia Ali team up to bring us “Keep It Coming” another tune that is made for the dancefloor. This new single features an uplifting breakdown that meshes well with Nadia’s vocals. The pulsing drop is dark and deep, but it still brings the energy that we all crave. Nick Terranova has come up with a nice selection of tracks in 2011, give “Take Over” and “Do You Love” a listen. Dancing Astronaut was lucky enough to see Nadia Ali perform live at Ruby Skye – she exudes beauty.

Only two days left to vote for your Essential Mix of the year!

BBC-One-Essential-Mix

BBC Radio 1′s Essential Mix has become required listening for any self-respecting EDM fan. The two-hour broadcast has made an icon out of Pete Tong, launched the career of many aspiring DJs, and reaffirmed the superstar status of house heavyweights.

Every year, fans of the show have the chance to vote for their favorite mix from the past 12 months. Last year’s winner was Swedish House Mafia’s live set from Creamfields 2010 — the show at which they debuted their now-infamous “everybody in the crowd sit down and jump up when the beat kicks” routine. As great as that mix was, it ignited some serious debate among fans, most notably those who felt Avicii deserved the title for his debut on the show.

Voting for the Essential Mix of 2011 closes at 2100 GMT on December 19, 2011 — that’s 4 p.m. on the East Coast of the U.S. This year, 15 mixes have nominated for the top honor by a panel of Radio 1 judges. Here’s the shortlist: eardyman, Brookes Brothers, Carl Craig, Dimitri From Paris, Eats Everything at In:Motion, Eric Prydz at Creamfields, Jamie XX, Joker, Julio Bashmore, Kaskade, Maya Jane Coles, Pete Tong 20, SBTRKT, Seth Troxler

You can submit your vote at the Essential Mix site. The winner will be replayed at 3am UK time on December 24th.

Chuckie ft. Gregor Salto – What Happens In Vegas (Cold Blank Remix)

ColdBlank2

What Happens In Vegas” is arguably Chuckie’s biggest release of the year – it is only fitting that this tune gets an electro remix to give it that extra oompf. Cold Blank adds just enough grunge a la Tommy Trash to attract the dubstep/new age electro crowd. Currently, this is sitting at number 5 in the Beatport electro charts and 25 overall. If you can’t get enough of “What Happens In Vegas” be sure to check out Pierce Fulton’s rendition as well. San Francisco natives should be excited to see Chuckie at Vessel SF in a little more than a week!

Adrian Lux talks “Alive,” “Teenage Crime,” and Rebecca & Fiona at Pacha NYC (video interview)

Swedish producer and DJ Adrian Lux was a late addition to Pacha’s big 6th Anniversary party with Hardwell, Martin Solveig, and R3hab, but a welcome one indeed. His new single “Alive” — not to mention its various remixes — has been in heavy rotation at DA HQ lately. Besides, there was no way we could miss his very first time at Pacha. We also got to sit down with Adrian and ask him about everything from life on the road to the origins of “Teenage Crime.” Watch the video for yourselves to learn a little more about this young up-and-comer, and don’t forget to see the 5 tracks you need to know from his set if you haven’t already.

DA’s DJing Made Easy: Mashups vs. Bootlegs

329204_270401539671472_139999882711639_872555_926230443_o

Here at Dancing Astronaut, we strive to provide our readers with the best in all things EDM. We realize that much of our readership consists of DJs/producers and we have decided to write a weekly editorial that caters to those people. This column is a continuation of the original “5 Tips” editorial and will feature a new topic each week.

In the very first installment of this editorial, we mentioned the importance of tagging music correctly, but didn’t explain the terminology in depth. Since then, we have received requests asking us to clarify the differences between mashups and bootlegs, and how to go about constructing your own. So, this week’s DJing Made Easy will cover these different types of edits and some helpful hints on how to make them.
