Although you may not have realized, Frenchman Martin Solveig has released his newest EP, The Night Out. It features “The Night Out” and five different remixes — some of which we have already heard — plus four other Solveig songs. The album has a poppy feel to it and is pretty much a compilation of all his biggest hits from his last album, Smash. We listened to the whole thing and picked out our favorite songs. Check past the break for the evaluation.
Dirty Dutch kingpin Sidney Samson and Stealth-Records owner Roger Sanchez teamed up on their latest track, “Flashing Lights,” which was released with a remix package yesterday. After touring together in 2010 and sharing a residency at Space Ibiza, to us it’s a shock that it took so look for these two to collaborate. Regardless, “Flashing Lights” is worth the wait. Featuring a throbbing bassline and bouncy synth that leads into a bass-heavy drop, this track is perfect for either laying back at home with your headphones on or blasting through the speakers of a crowded club. The release is accompanied by a remix package that includes versions from Roger Sanchez, Sidney Samson, Kid Massive, and Stafford Brothers. Give the original a listen and check past the break to hear the remixes.

Mustard Pimp’s 50′s surfer rock inspired electro track entitled “Amazons” just got the remix treatment. The Dick Dale-esque guitar riffs and female rock vocals are refreshingly unique and their re-imagining in this 7 remix package has a little something for everyone. The original was enough to blow us away, but as we listened to the other 7 remixes in the package it became nearly impossible to pick our favorite. We are leaning towards dubbing RESET!’s high energy, Ital-disco remix as top dog here but what do you think? That Risque Rhythm remix is infectious, Clockwork’s heavy electro style intensifies the original and Casino Gold’s acid house rendition sounds incredible through a pair of Sennheisers.
Let’s stop the confusion right here, right now. Jack Back is not a new upcoming artist, the name represents the new team formed by Nicky Romero and David Guetta, that’s all. Their release of “Wild One Two” received the highest praise one could receive in the world of EDM — our beloved “Anthem Status” badge. The remix package has just been released today and features the likes of Jaywalker, NO_ID, and Disfunktion. Read the details and give each one a listen after the jump.
Much has changed since Paul van Dyk’s last artist album, 2007′s In Between. Trance is no longer EDM’s prevailing ideology. The Swedish House Mafia is now the biggest act in the game. Dance music is popular in the United States. Dubstep exists. The scene has clearly changed. But we shouldn’t forget that much of the groundwork for dance music’s current global success was laid long ago, by legends like Paul van Dyk.
In PvD’s latest offering, Evolution, the iconic German shows that he’s uninterested in recreating the glory of his storied past. He’s got his sights set on the future — and the future, it appears, is trance music for the radio. While this may disappoint the fans who were hoping for a return to the sweeping majesty of 2000′s Out There and Back, it’s a simple necessity. The noughties, great as they were, are over. PvD has clearly learned from the success of David Guetta. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is completely up to you.
It would be confusing to categorize Evolution as trance music. Leave your preconceptions at the door, keep your ears open, and give Paul van Dyk the chance to take your breath away. (more…)
Fresh off a headline performance with his Mafia brothers at Masquerade Motel Miami, Sebastian Ingrosso is set to take over New York’s Roseland Ballroom this Friday and Saturday, April 6th and 7th. Seb will be joined by Style of Eye, Carl Kennedy, and up-and-comer Otto Knows, who has recently been taken under the wing of the Refune Records chief. Tickets to the show are still available, but we’ve also got a pair to give away to a lucky DA reader — and you get to pick which night you want to go. We’ve been to some pretty awesome shows at Roseland Ballroom in the past but we’ve never seen this member of the mafia solo: consider our expectations high.
As a follow-up to his previous collaboration with Hardwell, Dutch DJ/producer JoeySuki is back with his own original production. His new track, “Kiwistick,” has a similar breakdown to “Munster,” but features a unique synth bridge with a bouncy Dutch drop and bassline. Released today on Revealed Recordings, this one is definitely worth picking up. Check it out!

For those of you that didn’t end up going to Electro Beach Puerto Vallarta, you can catch a glimpse of what you may have missed out on through this video that follows Pierce throughout his journey. Chapter 1 of his video series shows us what DJs he had the opportunity to meet (and hopefully work with in the future), how he creates remixes, and gives us a little taste of his latest downtempo creation. Stay tuned to Dancing Astronaut for a special feature on Pierce coming to you shortly.
We, as dance fans, have been trained by our favorite DJs, our expectations honed by countless rides on the build-up/drop/breakdown roller coaster. Our insistence on bigger, badder drops and ever-louder bass can cloud our vision and make us forget about dance music’s potential to be a fully immersive experience. Morgan Page makes music to get lost in, with evocative lyrics and soothing yet carefully crafted beats. His blend of progressive and deep house is a far cry from tracks like “Atom,” a more nuanced sound with more emotional heft. On In The Air, his third studio album, Page presents songs that makes listeners feel something – something beyond floor-shaking bass, something more powerful and lasting. Read on for our review.
Alesso has been on quite the streak lately, “Calling” was huge, “Years” will be huge, and he just had an impressive Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 (not to mention an appearance at Masquerade Motel). He’s just unveiled a preview to his latest remix, a tranquil, uplifting take on Keane’s “Silenced By The Night.” The harmonious blend of synths and gentle vocals combine for a decidedly laid-back track, which takes us back to the “Heiress of Valentina” days. That’s not to say the track isn’t big — because it is. This is just the kind of house music you can get away with playing by the pool all summer while your parents are still awake. The last person we said that about? Avicii.
Update: Alesso just announced on Facebook that the track will be released on May 9th!
