Electric Zoo Top 5 Tracks

We heard almost too much music at Electric Zoo festival. But, there were a few clear favorites that had their fair share of airplay. We won’t waste any time with flowery introductions or unnecessary prose. Just check out our top tracks of Electric Zoo 2011 after the break.

Cherry Coke – Milky Way (Original Mix)

cherrycoke

This track has been floating around on the internet for a while under the guise of an unreleased Tim Berg effort. Thanks to our friends at Whomping Stereo however, we know better. With its driving chord progression, “Milky Way” definitely has a Tim Berg feel to it but is actually the brainchild of a much lesser known Polish producer named Cherry Coke. If this is the kind of production we can expect to come from Cherry Coke, we might all come to know him better sooner than we think.

DJ Mehdi passes away at age 34, sources report “an accidental death”

medhi

The EDM community has lost a truly incredible talent today.

Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, the 34-year-old French producer better known as DJ Mehdi has reportedly died this morning.

According to various sources his death has been reported as “an accident” rumored to be a fall from his roof late last night/early morning.

We had the pleasure of seeing him perform last week at Electric Zoo alongside Riton as one half of the DJ/producer duo, Carte Blanche. His creativity, energy and good spirit was unparalleled behind the decks.

Our prayers and sympathy go out to his friends and family.

RIP DJ Mehdi (1977 – 2011)

Creamfields Essential Mix downloads: Eric Prydz, Eddie Halliwell, Judge Jules, A Trak and Jack Beats

Creamfields

In case you aren’t familiar with Creamfields, it is a large dance music festival held yearly in Daresbury Park in Cheshire (England), right outside of Liverpool over the August Bank Holiday weekend. This is the festival’s fourth year as a camping event, and it was a huge success. Other Creamfields festivals have been held in wide variety of other countries such as United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Spain, Malta, Ireland, Mexico,Czech, Peru, Brazil, and Poland. Pete Tong and BBC Radio 1 decided to choose individual sets to record and broadcast live for a special 6-hour Essential Mix selection. Last Friday,  BBC Radio 1 broadcasted its special extended Essential Mix show showcasing sets from Eric Prydz, Eddie Halliwell, A Trak, Jack Beats and Radio 1′s own Judge Jules recorded at Creamfields. Over 50,000 people were in attendance to see over 200 DJs and live acts play over three full on days and nights. It’s not every day we get to see Max and AN21 take to the stage, even in light of their primetime touring schedule. At this year’s Electric Zoo Festival in New York, they did exactly that. DA asked Max a few questions as well – check it all out only on Dancing Astronaut.

Has the Swedish House Mafia code been cracked?

Swedish-House-Mafia-Cracked

It’s a lazy Sunday and we’re kind of bored, so lets turn things back to Swedish House Mafia and their upcoming announcement. If you don’t remember, the trio is taking over Pete Tong’s show on September 16th and they have been teasing some “big news” on the 23rd. A new jumble of spotlights with numbers and letters appeared at Creamfields last week, and some of our commenters have been working on the code ever since. Might they have cracked it? Click past the break for the theories.

David Guetta: Nothing But The Beat (Album Review)

nothing-but-the-beat

David Guetta has been at the forefront of house music for a reason. He releases huge tracks every year and has been one of the few transcendent DJs of the last decade or so. Nothing But The Beat was released on August 26th and features two discs, one being a vocal mix and the other an instrumental disc. Does this album have what it takes to topple the success of Guetta’s previous album One Love? Read our ‘transcript’ of each disc (and grades for each song) below as we go through one of the biggest album releases of the year.

Kaskade – Essential Mix Sep 10 2011

Kaskade

When we discovered that today was Kaskade’s debut on Pete Tong’s Essential Mix show on BBC Radio 1, we were honestly very surprised that it was only his first essential mix given his superstar status and ability, having recently been voted as America’s best DJ in 2011 and already a household name in the EDM scene.

Having taken the US by storm with phenomenal performances as a headliner at the inaugural Identity summer tour (that some of the Dancing Astronaut team had the pleasure to witness), this mix is a brilliant sequence of anthem after anthem, which is made even more impressive by that fact that more than half were produced by him or at least remixed by his Midas touch.

He features his absolutely mesmerising summer track, “Eyes”, the stable of DJ sets @ Electric Zoo, Alesso & Ingrosso’s “Calling”, his remix of “Invisible” (and amazing remix with a different feel to the other remixes), his classic “Raining“, his unreleased track “Turn it down” with Swedish duo Rebecca & Fiona…honestly, every track in his mix is amazing, just take a look at the tracklist.

Forget about bringing your iTunes EDM playlist to a party this weekend, just use this 2-hour mix. With so many good tracks, we thought it would be interesting to ask the Dancing Astronaut community – what’s your favourite track in this mix?

Listen to it here, and add it to your collection of Essential Mixes, it certainly ranks amongst the best of the mixes I’ve heard in recent history on Pete Tong’s famous BBC 1 Radio show.
