Nicky Romero at LED Anniversary Party: 5 tracks you need to know

Nicky Romero at LED Anniversary

Nicky Romero’s thunderous remix of Green Velvet’s “Flash” was big-room house last year, and if you got sick of it, it’s because you’re cynical and unpleasant. There’s simply no arguing the track’s immense power. But Nicky’s no one-trick pony. A string of impressive releases has turned the young Dutchman into the most exciting young name in big-room house — though a certain Robert Hardwell might disagree.

At the LED anniversary party in San Diego, NicRo’s exuberant one-hour set confirmed what we already knew: he’s not the finished package yet, but the talent is most certainly there. Continue reading for the five tracks you’ll definitely be hearing again before 2012 is in the books. (more…)

Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso – Calling (Lose My Mind) (Original Mix)

calling lose my mind album art ingrosso alesso

When we ranked the 50 biggest tracks of 2011, “Calling” came in at a very respectable 11th place. The Ingrosso-Alesso track, with its stadium-sized synths and euphoric drop, triggers so many 2011 memories for the Astronauts – from Electric Zoo to SHM at MSG to countless club nights in between. Now, the vocal version of “Calling” is finally out on Ingrosso’s Refune Records, and we have no doubt it will end up on our 2012 list as well. We weren’t initially convinced that the track needed a vocal – and we still may not be – but it sounds damn good either way. Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic belts out soaring, sing-a-long lyrics that are just simple enough to stay stuck in our heads for days. Have a listen below and let us know what you think!

M83 – Midnight City (Eric Prydz Remix)

Midnight City [Eric Prydz Private Remix]

Please forgive us. We’ve just returned from a two day-long dream state with a perpetual pulsating bassline and hypnotic swirling synths. It’s generally a good rule of thumb to download any song that has the name Eric Prydz (or Cirez D, Pryda, etc.), and “Midnight City” is no exception. Prydz generally leaves most of the essence of M83′s original track intact, but blows out the sounds and speeds it all up for a distinct dance music feel. It’s the kind of track that could be perfect at a huge day rave or at a club late night. Thank you Eric Prydz — but damn your fear of flying.

Marco V – Analogital (Bassjackers & Hard Rock Sofa Remixes)

hardrocksofa

There are instances where original versions of tracks are solid, but the remixes take them to a whole different level. This is one of those instances. The Bassjackers and Hard Rock Sofa managed to put a few twists and turns to create two certified club destroyers. If you have taken a liking to fist pumping, big drops, and craziness then you’ll love these two tracks. If you don’t like these things…actually — let’s not even go there.

Marco V – Analogital (Bassjackers Remix)

Add a little “Mush, Mush” to any track and it instantly makes it 25 (or more)% better. This is a fact and cannot be disputed. These Dutch bros just know how to produce, it was ingrained in their soul at a young age. Click play and get messy at your earliest convenience.

Marco V – Analogital (Hard Rock Sofa Remix)

You’re probably sitting at home thinking “man the Bassjackers killed it,” then you start listening to Hard Rock Sofa’s rendition and you don’t know what hit you. Fast forward to about 3 minutes into the track, Hard Rock Sofa has one of those “What the Hell? I own you” moments where they literally decide to crush it for the rest of the tune.

AutoErotique – Bring That Beat Back (Tiesto Edit)

Anything with Tiesto’s name attached to it immediately garners large play counts and his edit of Canadian duo AutoErotique’s “Bring That Beat Back” will certainly be no different. Tiesto’s edit is an electro banger complete with angry synths and a massive big room drop. The tune is set for release on March 12th by Tiesto’s label, Musical Freedom, which is on an absolute roll with its 2012 releases. Thus far the label has already dropped “We Gonna Rock” by Quintino, “Generation 303” by Nicky Romero, “Arena” by Avesta and now this. If Musical Freedom’s upward spiral continues we can’t imagine what kind of massive hits are in store for the remainder of the year.

Porter Robinson ft. Amba Shepherd – Vandalism (Lazy Rich Remix) (Preview)

Lazy-Rich-Logo

Amba Shepherd’s silky, sultry vocals and Porter Robinson’s moody progressive house beat combined to make “Vandalism” one of our favorite tracks of 2011 (particularly at the gym). Admittedly, it’s fallen out of rotation recently to make way for newer songs, but Lazy Rich’s just-premiered remix is going to change that – and fast. It starts with deep piano notes and grows into a growling Lazy Rich beat that not only fills our speakers, but compliments Amba’s vocals perfectly. No word on a release date for the remix just yet, but trust us, we’re looking into it.
