Skylar Grey and Dirty South team up again to release one of the best sensitive remixes of the year in “Invisible.” Their “Coming Home” collaboration was a much bigger ordeal from a festival perspective, but this tune really hits the spot for the softer progressive lovers. The music video itself is very artistic and fairly emo. Looks like house influenced music is continuing to make headway into mainstream culture as the big names within our industry continue to get bigger. Make sure to keep an eye out for Skylar’s “Invisible” EP due out in early 2012.
Duck Sauce’s “Big Bad Wolf” video was hilarious. It could arguably win best music video of the year status. The only problem is that the original mix is much better live than it is through your headphones. Let us be clear here – Dada Life’s remix is flat out better and doesn’t share any of the problems the original has. It takes Dada’s sausage fattening sounds and applies them to “Big Bad Wolf” which creates absolute euphoria. This duo has unbelievable energy in live shows, but they bring it even in their preview snippets. Let’s face it – a funny preview leads to the excitement surrounding the track. All of us at Dancing Astronaut can’t wait to get our hands on this, and we are willing to bet you can’t either.
PS – cute dog.
Release Date: unknown, but we have a feeling a little birdie will let us know.
Coming off the heels of his “Gimme Gimme/ The Wall” EP, UK DJ/producer Louis La Roche gives away a free tribute to the city of Los Angeles. If you are a fan of nu disco/ french house Louis is currently your king, no one has cleaner and more playful productions than him. The beauty of nu-disco is that it is truly takes you through time, allowing you to relive elements from the 70s and 80s. With that being said, Louis does a great job of blending the past with the future and creating a whole new appeal for ‘new age’ music listeners to n-joy. This track is fun and lively, which happens to be an accurate description of Los Angeles.

There are good songs that you listen to for a while. There are great songs that you can’t get enough of. There are anthems that are played consistently at every festival. Then there is “Levels” a song that is so big that it deserves its own triangle at the top of the pyramid. Last year we thought Swedish House Mafia’s “One” and Afrojack’s “Take Over Control” took house music to a whole new level – and to be fair, it did. This year “Levels” thrust house music to the forefront of pop culture and redefined the way people perceived house music. For those of you that are still in denial – this is pop culture, so wake the eff up.
The Mom Test - You want to know how we know that Avicii is truly transcending music? My mom knows who he is and what “Levels” sounds like. Want to know the even scarier part? She absolutely despises house music, because her son may or may not party excessively to it. Every now and then she asks for a new workout playlist – and guess what? “Levels” has to be on it.
Dancing Astronaut Rule #147 – When an artist passes the ‘mom test’ with flying colors he or she is truly primed for world domination.
Dancing Astronaut Rule #148 – After passing the mom test, the song is then put into a pantheon where everyone must worship at its throne. People who do not oblige, must be hung and stoned in public.
Marco Poggioli and Matteo Gariselli’s “Iris” gets an added disco twist from Manuel De La Mare. While this may not be a club anthem it definitely is a nice tune to relax with in the correct environments. The hi-hats and snares are particularly evident in this remix – they are short and quick and really bring out the different elements surrounding minimal and deep house. If you are more of a progressive fan listen to Manuel’s previous releases of “Guerilla” and “LA Social” to get that big room feel when listening through your headphones. Currently, Manuel has been spitting out tunes at an unbelievably high rate – do we see any signs of slowing down in the future? Probably not.

AN21 and Max Vangeli have been having a pretty awesome year. They’ve been touring with some of the biggest acts in the world and playing at some of the largest festivals, so it’s a logical extension that they would finally get their chance to take the world’s most famous turntables this year as well. Next Friday — well, technically it’ll be Saturday by then — the two will have the honor of delivering their own BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. We’ll bring you more info as we get it, but for now, be sure to tune in next week 3-5AM London time.
PS: This information isn’t even on BBC‘s website just yet, but our sources are saying it’s a done deal.
Sure, it may only be Wednesday, but it’s feeling like the weekend already. Why? Alesso just dropped a preview of the massive “Raise Your Head,” and it’s the kind of track that begs to be blasted. It boasts a down-and-dirty synth and a darker, almost spookier edge than his usual productions, accented by a killer rock drum loop. No word on a release date yet, but you can bet you’ll be hearing “Raise Your Head” this Halloween weekend, no matter where you go.
Here is the latest remix of Dada Life’s “Happy Violence.” Previously, we thought the vocals may have been from Nervo, however, it is the lovely Sue Cho that deserves credit (not 100% sure, but almost positive). That being said, check out this dubby remix from 16 year old rising producer Caveat. This has the perfect amount of wobble for everyone to get behind, even non-dubstep fans can dig this. This is set to release on Halloween day on Beatport and November 1st on iTunes. Check out the preview and sound off in the comments!
Release Date: Halloween on Beatport, November 1st on iTunes
Estonian electro producer Mord Fustang released his newest remix today, putting his spin on Morgan Page, Sultan & Ned Shepard and BT’s “In The Air.” This remix has all of the elements of a typical Mord production that we have come to know and love; lofty, organ-like synths, a number of different bass wobbles, and pretty arps throughout. While the build up incorporates some of the original instrumentation, as well as Angela McCluskey’s sultry vocals, this track is definitely a departure from the original “In The Air” production. The drop in this remix brings a totally different energy than the original track, with gritty bass lines and melodic synths, but don’t expect a drop as hard as previous Mord productions such as “Lick The Rainbow.” Altogether, this is an amazing fusion of Mord’s recognizable electro style with a great house track. We can’t wait to hear more from Mord Fustang in the coming months.

Isn’t it great when an original mix is very good and then a package of remixes come out that take the track to a whole new level (cut to all the people nodding with a huge smile)? That’s exactly what happened with “Maximal Crazy,” but then again you expected that to occur with the likes of R3hab, Swanky Tunes, and the Bassjackers unleashing their powerful touches. Let’s dive into the meaty sections of these bombs.
R3hab and Swanky Tunes used each of their respective trademark sounds to create a pulsing remix that emits an intoxicating amount of bass through your speakers. You can hear that distinct “Steam Gun” sound from Swanky Tunes in the bassline, however, the buildup incorporates all of R3hab’s signature ‘edgier’ noises. The sharpness of R3hab’s style combined with the progressive force of the Russian group gives you the perfect blend of both styles. This is straight up fire from start to finish.

The Bassjackers recreate the saying “go hard or go home” – it has recently been changed to “go hard or cease to exist.” This remix currently has more strength than the San Francisco 49ers defense (which is a whole hell of a lot). Make sure you maintain a low center of gravity to increase balance, because the Bassjackers fully intend on knocking you on your ass.
