Swedish House Mafia takes over BBC Radio 1 tonight, might announce second Miami show

SHM-Roseland-Afterparty-004

Pete Tong’s weekly Essential Selection on BBC Radio 1 features the some of the worlds biggest DJs with the new tracks. When SHM took over last September, they dropped “Antidote,” chose “Walking Alone” as the Essential New Tune, and showed off Axwell’s cut of “Resurrection.” Not only did we get a SHM set but each one of the Swedish DJs had their own mini-mix as well.

There’s no telling what might happen on the show. Will we hear Alesso’s new song and find out what the guys have been working on in the studio? Will we find out what happened behind-the-scenes for Masquerade Motel Miami? Will they announce a second show that they just hinted at on Twitter? The only way to find out is by tuning into BBC Radio 1 tonight at  4PM EST, 1PM PST, or 9PM GMT.

Aoki streams live from Roseland Ballroom, tonight at 12:30am

Steve-Aoki-SP-9

Steve Aoki has been touring the US with Datsik since mid January on his very own Deadmeat tour. Taking a cue from Swedish House Mafia, Aoki will be live streaming his show at Roseland Ballroom tonight – well, technically it’s Saturday morning – at 12:30am. Lil’ Jon is confirmed to be in attendance, and we’re hearing from sources that there may be some other special guests as well. You can be sure that Aoki will be crowd kayaking, throwing pies and popping champagne before he hits “Turbulence.” Just make sure to keep all fluids away from the computer when you tune in — Aoki is known to get wild.

UPDATE: Chiddy Bang, Wynter Gordon and Polina Goudieva will also be in attendance.

Cosmic Gate creates a special track for their take on Ministry of Sound’s Trance Nation series

Cosmic Gate makes some of the most emotionally evocative songs in the EDM game. Something about their productions is simply fraught with an unavoidable feeling that is powerfully moving. The German duo have taken on the prestigious Trance Nation series and created a 2CD release featuring artists like Tiesto, Mat Zo, Sander van Doorn and Arty. The 30-track album is mostly comprised of their older stuff but Cosmic Gate has produced a special tune, “Crushed,” just for the album. The dreamy song features typical CG-synths and a melodious bass line. The duo has hit yet another emotional chord and we imagine the album will be structured similarly.

Deadmau5 – Maths (Original Mix)

Deadmau5

It’s truly amazing to see how Joel Zimmerman has maintained his influence while changing up his style multiple times over the course of a few years. He was the figurehead for progressive house early in his career, then went on a bit of a dubstep tirade, and brought it back to his origins recently. “Maths” is his latest single to follow his reworking of “Cthulhu Dreams” and it has a few Daft Punk-esque qualities while maintaining similar electro chords to his previous blockbuster hit “Ghosts N Stuff.” Deadmau5 continues to draw in the fans almost as if he was the leader of a disciplined cult. The size of his fanbase speaks towards the quality of Joel’s productions.

Felix Cartal – Domo (Pierce Fulton Remix) [Preview]

pierce fulton

Immediately after the release of his single “Who Wants Spaghetti?” Pierce gives us a little snippet of what he has been cooking in the kitchen. Felix Cartal’s “Domo” receives a deeper bassline and a distinct sounding rattle courtesy of this youngster from Vermont. Judging from his last two productions it seems as though Pierce is tackling the electro scene and developing his own niche within the confines of the genre. We suspect that his live sets range from tracks which are super techy all the way to songs that have enough power to knock you on your ass. Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records is releasing this bad boy next week, stay tuned for the full release.

Adrian Lux – Fire (R3hab Remix) [Preview]

20110917-r3hab-pacha-inline-2

When you think of R3hab’s productions, words like “mellow” and “relaxed” probably wouldn’t spring to mind. But those are the very words you can use to describe his remix of Adrian Lux’s “Fire.” While we will always have a soft spot for the heavy synths and loud bass (read: #chainsawmadness), it is nice to see another side of him. The high-pitched melody exploits Lune’s harmonious vocals and the overall groove is still something you can dance to. Despite being softer than his other remixes, we like his take on “Fire” and hope it won’t be his last effort in this style.

Exclusive: Ultra Music Festival expanding to Buenos Aires, Ibiza, Warsaw, Seoul in 2012

We have learned that Ultra Music Festival will be going global in 2012, adding more events and expanding to Europe and Asia while strengthening its presence in South America. Buenos Aires (Argentina), Ibiza (Spain), Warsaw (Poland), Seoul (South Korea), and Sao Paolo (Brazil) will all be getting Ultra Music Festivals of their own before 2012 comes to an end. A kind tipster sent us the video seen above, which uses footage from the awesome-looking UMF Brasil, and definitely has us excited about the possibilities for this new endeavor. A plan for global festival domination and the phase two lineup for UMF Miami? Not bad for a day’s work.
