Skrillex sets his crosshairs on deadmau5 with motion capture madness

The possibilities of electronic music are as limitless as the imaginations of those creating it. Unique stage productions are quickly becoming just as important as the music and with technology increasing at exponential rates, artists can finally turn their dreams into realities. Daft Punk were the pioneers, paving the way by blending their music and their stage show into true performance art. The massive monolithic pyramid for their Alive 2007 tour inspired countless artists after them to go bigger and better.

In recent years, many artists have followed suit. Of course, the most notable would be Skrillex’s mentor, Deadmau5, the reigning king of inspired and unique stage shows. His Expert Griefing Machine is awe-inspiring, it is a technical and lighting marvel that no doubt plays a huge role in his ability to sell out shows.  Skrillex is following in his mentor’s footsteps with a new live production of his very own, but he’s one-upping the mau5 and beating him at his own game.

Read on to find out what makes the magic happen.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike “Smash The House” all over North America, we’re along for the ride

DVLM TOUR POSTER

Dancing Astronaut is pleased to announce its official media partnership with the Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike “Smash the House” North American tour. They’ll be hitting up EDM hotspots all across the US and Canada, kicking things off next Thursday at District 36 in New York and wrapping things up with what’s sure to be a spectacular performance at Insomniac’s Escape from Wonderland on the 29th.

Apart from this ambitious tour, they’ve been extremely busy with their productions, and we’ve all heard the fruits of their labor. From the pulsating “Stomp” to the no-nonsense drop of “REJ” (featured on the Tomorrowland soundtrack), Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike are as much of a powerhouse in the studio as they are in the booth.

Along the way we’ll be providing an exclusive look at what the guys are up to with a full-feature video tour diary series (think along the lines of this Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano piece), as well as running a pretty spiffy VIP ticket giveaway for the shows in the tour.

Deadmau5 to play “Unhooked” show at Pier 36 on New Years Eve, tickets on sale October 18th

4x6-front

Shortly after his record-breaking six night marathon of mind-blowing performances at Roseland Ballroom, Deadmau5 will make a grandiose return to the city that never sleeps for NYE 2012. Pier 36 is where this extravaganza will be held — not to be confused with Avicii’s gig at Pier 94 . The NYC event space has a 6,000 person capacity and is located in Manhattan’s financial district adjacent to the attractive East River. For those of you who are wondering what “unhooked” means, it refers to a mau5 show devoid of his LED cube (AKA Professional Griefers) and his LED head. Even without all the fancy electronics, we still have a feeling the party will be just as thrilling. Tickets are set to go on sale on October 18th starting at $100 — not the cheapest event ever, but still a pretty good deal for an artist like Deadmau5 on New Years Eve. Hit either of the links below for more info.

Jean Elan – NERD/Flashed (Original + Dabruck & Klein Remix)

n36282324205_951313_6005

“NERD” and “Flashed,” are two exquisite and differently flavored tracks that are full of emotion and progressive brilliance. The Berlin based producer Jean Elan has done it again since his brilliant remix of Eric Prydz’s “Niton.” “NERD” is a tribal sounding gem with incredible drum combinations beginning at the 1:50 mark. The drums get joined by amusing flashes of white noise, elegant keyboard harmonies, and a powerful build up, which all sum up into one hell of a heart pounding drop. “Flashed” is a long 7:36, so if you want to quickly jump into the action, fast forward to the 2:40 mark. For those of you who love progression, I advise you to let the track roll from beginning to the end, it’s an incredibly pleasing journey.

Similar to their underrated remix of “Mutfakta,” Dabruck & Klein’s remix of “Flashed” delivers one of the hardest bass pounding drops we have heard this year, similar to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s power driven style. *BANGER*

Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris – We Found Love (Alvaro Remix)

Rihanna We Found Love

DA regular, DJ Alvaro, just delivered this remix of Rihanna’s collaboration with Calvin Harris, “We Found Love.” He adds some spice to the pop single with a harder drop that is laced with the typical Alvaro bass line.  There are also some signature Dutch sounds incorporated into the track to give it that nice blend, but if you don’t believe us, listen to it for yourselves below.

Fatboy Slim – Ya Mama (Push The Tempo) [Moguai Remix]

Moguai (2)

Moguai adds his touches onto Fatboy Slim’s “Ya Mama,” he does a great job of meshing the chopped up vocals with a high energy bassline.  When you fast forward to approximately 3:50 you get a really Tron-ish segment that sets the track apart from the original. Moguai does a great job of sampling certain portions of the original mix to include in his version this is especially evident when you hear Fatboy Slim’s trademark disco sound. He keeps us on our feet by allowing this tune to feature a little bit of everything. Be sure to listen to Moguai’s remix of Afrojack’s “Bangduck,” which is another perfectly executed remix.

Pierce Fulton – Pardon My French EP

pierce-fulton-24smaller

Famous for his entertaining Yacht Week performances, the confident Pierce Fulton hailing from the United States, has finally released his first EP on CR2 Records. It’s not every day that you’ll find an American EDM producer that dishes out multiple quality tracks at once, with a few exceptions of course (Kaskade). It took some time for us to recover from Fulton’s enormous remix of  MYNC, Ron Carroll, and Dan Castro’s “Don’t Be Afraid.” Now, the anticipated EP has met and even surpassed some of our expectations especially with the variety of styles he has managed to master between the three tracks.

“Pardon My French,” leads the EP showcasing Pierce Fulton’s incredible electro-house abilities. Driven with immensely powerful bass lines that are distorted to perfection, Fulton adds high pitched electro-synths turning the track into nothing less than a pure BANGER!

Next up is “Lay Right Here,” which offers more pleasant and beautiful instrumentals. This is the kind of track that is reminiscent of picnics on the beach, drinking wine, and witnessing pretty sunsets. With a soft yet touching bass line, and emotional piano harmonies flowing through the song, “Lay Right Here” is perfect for all the romancers out there.

By far the most progressive and trancey of the three, and coming from such a young and upcoming producer, “For Me” could have fooled us as being produced by superstars like Funkagenda or Sander van Doorn. Pierce Fulton has been able to maturely create underground rolling beats and pounding drums as if progressive/trance was strictly his style.

Steve Aoki ft. Rivers Cuomo – Earthquakey People (The Sequel)

Steve Aoki SP-9

Steve Aoki’s sequel to “Earthquakey People” packs an addictive riff that’s going to absolutely crush it at clubs for the foreseeable future, and as Rivers Cuomo himself proclaims, “don’t be afraid to dance.” However, after one listen, you probably won’t have a choice. Aoki brushes up on his more progressive sounds with this one, but thankfully he doesn’t lose too much of the dirtiness that Aoki-heads crave. DJs load up your crates, and everyone else get downloading — this track’s got major mass appeal.

Lunde Bros – Saga (Myback Mix)

lundebros

John Dalhback and Albin Myers combine their names (and talents) to create “MyBack”. Their style is so hard to describe – it is just so out there with the electro and progressive influences. The “Saga” remix is really everywhere, as you listen to the track it changes from every transitionary stage. This is definitely one of those tracks that you don’t want to skip through in order to get to the juicy section (usually the drop), because it is full of power in its entirety. Vessel SF is hosting John Dahlback tomorrow, so we better see you there! All the astronauts will be present early at Vessel in order to see Nima and Jared open for John, you are more than welcome to take a shot (or 10) with us.

Kaskade ft. Quadron – Waste Love [Preview]

Kaskade-At-LavoNY-18

Kaskade just released his new teaser “Waste Love” from his upcoming (and may we say “unbelievable”) album Fire & Ice which is set to release on October 25th. This tune is a little more mellow that we have come to expect from Kaskade, but the vocals from Quadron are still sexy as hell. We think this track will be perfect for when you are just lounging around, it doesn’t necessarily hit hard, but it is pleasant for ‘chilling out’ purposes.
