If you’re a fan of artists like Mark Knight, Richie Hawtin and Carl Cox, there’s a good chance you’re also a fan of Witty Tunes, whether you realize it or not.
Based out of Amsterdam and Washington, DC, the label has quietly built a sterling reputation at the top of the underground house world, consistently charting releases that find their way into marquee acts’ mixes. To commemorate its 100th label release, owners Sideburn and Redondo have compiled Witty’s top 20 tracks from the past five years to represent their sound. Running the stylistic gamut from groovy cuts by Nightriders to upbeat tech house a la DJ Madskillz, 100th Release is a standout compilation at a bargain bin price-point. Check it out exclusively on Beatport today, with previews after the jump.
Damian Lazarus has reached a noteworthy milestone with the 100th release on his famed Crosstown Rebels imprint. In celebration, Tiga — who has been on a four year production hiatus — has been commissioned to bring to fruition The Picture EP, with rising talent Subb-an contributing to the remix package. The legend of Tiga is a vast one, and his contribution to dance music, even bigger. Damian Lazarus’ long time friendship with him makes all the sense for this momentous release.
“The Picture,” the lead song on the EP, is a dark techno track with Tiga’s gloomy vocals over a repetitive drum pattern. “Pleasure From The Bass” — with its fitting title — is upbeat and funky, featuring bleeps and a propelling bassline that makes this release an all around great one.
