Ahead of the beginning of the start of his Brazilian tour next week, our man Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) gave us a little Christmas treat in the form of a cheeky little mashup of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” and Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” We normally have a pretty discriminating ear when it comes to mashups, but this is straight out of Fatboy’s recent sets and we’re liking the way in which he sews together these crooners’ vocals and disco beats. Enjoy the free download below.
Every Saturday night at 1am in the UK, Pete Tong allows an artist of his choosing to take over the Radio 1 airwaves for two full hours. The Essential Mixis legendary and for many of these DJs and producers, the pressure feels immense. A stellar mix can shoot you to recognition, solidify a career, or facilitate a comeback. Although with the generous input of fans, Pete Tong does eventually crown an Essential Mix of the year himself (last year: Above & Beyond), we also put our heads together to decide on the ten mixes from 2012 that made us listen again, and again, and again.
Drum ‘n’ bass fans rejoice! Welsh producer High Contrast delivers a killer remix of hip-hop MC Plan B’s latest single from his ill Manors album. This should come as no surprise, High Contrast has been in the game for over a decade and has remixed everyone from Tiesto to Kanye to Adele into a quality drum-and-bass tune. If his remixing resume isn’t enough, he also won Essential Mix of the Year in 2007. In classic DnB style, High Contrast incorporates an uptempo syncopated breakbeat and deep bassline with Plan B’s original guitar, strings, and piano melodies. Careful, you may be tempted to get out of your seat when you hear this one. Download the remix and also check out Plan B’s original mix after the break.
Adele has been one of the most remixed vocalists in the house world this year. “Rolling In The Deep” and “Someone Like You” have been dropped in numerous sets by the biggest artists. You could argue that her vocals are almost as iconic as Coldplay’s when played live. Mikael Weermets released his remix of “Someone Like You” for free on his facebook. If you can’t get enough of this track check out Thomas Gold and Mark Mendes’ remix. Both are great and we are having a tough time deciding which one we are partial towards. Can you help us out?

You may remember Thomas Gold’s work with Adele’s “Set Fire To The Rain,” needless to say, you loved it. Thomas now remixes “Someone Like You” alongside Mark Mendes and keeps the same sensitive rolling bassline that is evident in his previous work with Adele. Earlier in the year in seemed that Lady GaGa was the most remixed artist from the mainstream world, however, we believe that Adele is now the hottest artist for house artists to remake. “Rolling In The Deep” was mashed up and bootlegged so often you can’t even count how many times you’ve heard it in live sets. Here is the scary part – it was damn good no matter what setting you were in.
NOTE: This tune is a great warm up for Thomas’ “Sing2me.” Keep on the lookout for the release!
We thought we did a decent job of filling you in on Steve Angello and Thomas Gold when they came to Governors Island a few weeks ago, but now there’s a recap posted to back yo our words. This awesomely entertaining video follows Thomas from New York down to Miami, where he performed poolside at the Fontainebleu the following day. In case you were wondering, yes, Thomas Gold is still the man.
Cazzette is back at its dubby-steppy ways, this time offering up a take on a track that already had a nearly perfect remix in our opinion. We’ve heard Adele get mashed up in too many ways to count, but there’s something about this “Set Fire To The Rain” bootleg that had our heads bobbing before we could say ‘Thomas Gold.’ This release returns to the well balanced electro house blend of the amazing “Save The World” bootleg we brought you exclusively, adding a way more pronounced bassline and some well-timed roll effects in the chorus. We were even able to pull some strings to bring you guys the track as a completely free download. Be sure to check out the SoundCloud preview, and hit the link below to get your download on!
For those of you who listened to Pete Tong’s last Essential Selection show you may recognize this as the first track played. Adele’s soulful “Fire To The Rain” gets a heavy progressive remix by Thomas Gold. This is set to be released soon (exact date is unknown). Be on the lookout for his new track with Axwell also coming to a speaker near you shortly!
