In what has proved to be the year of the album, the dance community has seen full-fledged studio output from both legends and newcomers alike. Released in May, Armin van Buuren’s Intense has maintained its place amongst the best-received, even holding its own against the hype of the month’s most-anticipated but now surprisingly forgotten Random Access Memories. Yet though attention spans are short the king of trance’s legacy is long, and for his latest endeavor he has invited a colorful host of characters to share in the spotlight with Intense: The More Intense Edition.
While the first release already included as unlikely a combination of collaborators as Nervo, Miri Ben-Ari and Trevor Guthrie, the official remix album features over a dozen artists on both sides of the progressive/trance divide. Ørjan Nilsen’s rework follows Michael Brun’s, Andrew Rayel segues into W&W, and on the bonus edition Dannic finds himself surrounded by the likes of Cosmic Gate, Tritonal, Aly & Fila and more. With 11 Intense tracks remixed by 18 artists and two brand new Armin tunes besides, The More Intense Edition at the very least holds up to its name: This is not your average remix package.

Russian trance team Eximinds has been surveying the scene for a few years, treating junkies of uplifting melodies to tracks like their remixes of Alexander Popov’s “When The Sun” and Aly & Fila’s “Coming Home.” This week, however, the duo reached a new milestone with their debut release on the prodigious Anjunabeats label. “Revolved” hits a little harder than your typical Anjuna track and pairs haunting stuttered vocals with a gradual build breaking into a prolonged, bassy break.
