Meet Apocalytpo, two 18-year old Melbourne-based producers who have quickly begun to make a name for themselves by melding dark synths with harmonious peaks and catastrophically deep valleys. Their debut release, “600 Kents” was premiered earlier this year as an Essential Selection on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show, establishing these youngsters as ones to watch in 2013. Devastatingly dark and ominous, the duo’s debut track is reminiscent of fellow Aussie, Tommy Trash‘s gritty electro. Striking a delicate balance between chirpy melodies and aggressive sawtooth groans, “600 Kents” epitomizes the genre-blurring we’ve come to see from many of dance music’s newcomers – it’s a refreshingly versatile take on an increasingly stagnant genre.
