Kaskade’s mashups have become a staple of his world-class sets. Every so often (on a Monday), Kaskade will release his masterful mashups for free to his fans. Yesterday was one of those days. For this week’s KMM, Kaskade has paired “Surrender,” a lesser-known Kaskade original off 2006′s The Calm, with Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes’ euphoric original “Apogee.” The mashup is simple but effective. The combination of these two tracks is uncannily natural. Kaskade has an unparalleled ear for harmony, and his mashups are direct evidence of this. While it’s obvious from solo efforts Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes are tremendously talented, their collaborative work brings their sound to a new level. Tracks including “Feedback” and the “Smolendgrad/United EP” – not to mention the “Sending My Love” remix – feature a distinct production only achievable by throwing the 6 of them in a studio. “Apogee” is a huge progressive house track that incorporates softer, more melodic synths than some of the punchier electro drops we’ve heard in past efforts.
