At the beginning of this year, Sasha teamed up with Diynamic/Get Physical/frequent Climbers collaborator Betoko for a two hour set in the Mixmag’s offices DJ Lab. Mixmag does well recruiting top talents to their office decks, but this set , first Betoko, then Sasha, then back-to-back stands a bit taller than the rest.
We last checked in with Betoko and Climbers earlier this month with Betoko’s remix of the Climbers’ “Equal Responsibility”– a track that’s been on heavy rotation since its release. This latest track “Timeline” out on James Teej, Voytek Korab, and Jared Simms’ My Favorite Robot label on January 7th, accomplishes a little something different. The production pairing drops the pop-laden influences on this one and a delivers a dark instrumental track full of extended synth squelches and counteracting chord play. Enjoy a four minute stream below.
The Climbers’ sultry summer deep house jam “Equal Responsibility” has gotten the remix treatment from three different producers and production teams, but it is very clear Betoko‘s take on the fun and bouncy original is a track worth remembering. Betoko, a UK producer by way of Mexico, boasts an impressive production catalogue in the span of his career and in this track, his pop influences, plucked bass lines, and tasteful percussion layering makes this one of the best tracks we’ve heard in recent history. Check out the full stream on YouTube after the break and purchase the full remix package, which also includes very solid efforts from Deaf Pillow and Inxec vs. Droog.
