While the French DJ group known as Birdy Nam Nam gained notoriety in the early 2000s by winning the DMC World Team Championships, 2012 saw the four-man DJ outlet achieve international recognition with the release of their Jaded Future EP on OWSLA. After playing shows in North America on the OWSLA tour, Birdy Nam Nam have returned to Skrillex’s burgeoning imprint with a brand new EP entitled Defiant Order.
Consisting of Birdy Nam Nam’s original “Defiant Order” and four genre-bending remixes, Defiant Order is a futuristic and experimental EP. “Defiant Order” itself is conspicuously French, with electro and glitch hop elements. Fellow Frenchman Breakbot provides a deft midtempo rendition, while UZ (who many suspect to be French) puts an intoxicating trap spin on the original. Craze begins by accentuating the hip hop elements of “Defiant Order,” though his remix is quickly consumed by future bass rhythms. Finally, Block Beattaz round out the EP with a deep 140 bpm remix.

Never satisfied with the status quo, Skrillex‘s OWSLA label continues to surface new and exciting talent in the world of dubstep and electro. Next up on their list is the currently unknown production outlet Phuture Doom, whose name graces our pages for the first time today. Not much is known about who or what Phuture Doom is, its Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud only just popped up in the last few days – could it be another Dog Blood-esque collaboration? Only time will tell. What we do know is that this remix of Birdy Nam Nam‘s latest “Defiant Order” is aggressive electro at its finest. Bred for the floors of filthy warehouses and run through an electro meat grinder of sawtooth growls and savage kicks, Phuture Doom’s take on “Defiant Order” has left us stunned.
Scheduled for official release on Birdy Nam Nam’s Defiant Order EP on January 22nd, members of The Nest can grab this one for free before its official release.
After a year of building a team, the OWSLA crew is ready to hit North America with their first proper label tour. Starting in Nashville October 26th, the group will make their way to the West Coast, Canada, and the East Coast, before ending in Philadelphia November 18th. The lineup will vary by date, but unfortunately, head honcho Skrillex will only be making an appearance in New Orleans with Zedd. The rest of the dates will feature Kill the Noise, Jack Beats, The M Machine, Alvin Risk, Birdy Nam Nam, Alex Metric, Kill Paris, MONSTA, and Seven Lions. Tickets will be on sale soon so make sure to checkout the linuep and dates for each location past the break. (more…)
First played by Skrillex at Spring Awakening Festival back in June, the OWSLA Records founder just posted this video of his “Goin’ Hard” remix of Birdy Nam Nam’s “Goin’ In” to his YouTube account. The video features black-and-white footage of Birdy Nam Nam, an acclaimed four-person DJ crew from Paris, dropping the fast-paced, screeching remix in front of a massive crowd of bass-thirsty fans. Call it drum-and-bass, drumstep, or good old-fashioned electro, Skrillex proves again with this track why he’s shot to the forefront of the dance world. Check out the video and stay tuned for the July 17th release on Birdy Nam Nam’s Jaded Future EP from OWSLA Records.
