Best of BPM: Our favorite live sets from the marathon Mexican festival

BPM Festival

If you’re anything like us, you probably spent much of the last ten days avoiding social media for fear of mention of BPM, an event quickly becoming dance music’s greatest amalgamation of (largely deep house and techno) talent at once. The sixth annual festival took place this year in Playa del Carmen, Mexico — far away from the cold winds and boring cubicles many festivalgoers left behind for a glorious combination of beaches and beats. None of us over at Dancing Astronaut were of the lucky to attend, but we did catch some of the many killer sets that went down on the playas and in the clubs. Not all of these sets are complete and they’re definitely not a replacement for actually attending, but we hope this roundup will offer even the tiniest bit of solace. Click below for our choices from Andre Crom, Nicole Moudaber, Tale of Us, Ellen Allien, Sven Väth, Dubfire, Eats Everything, Cassy, Sasha, and Seth Troxler b2b Guy Gerber.

Good Morning Mix – Ludovika’s BPM Festival Mix

18

Those of us above the border of Mexico have only dreamed of BPM, or — until this week — have only streamed live sets from BPM. Playa del Carmen’s festival, infamous for its darker shades of sound, boasts one of the deepest lineups we’ve seen in recent history supported by plenty of house talent. Before we bring you our live set wrap-up from the festival, wake up with a taste of BPM served by Ludovika.

Ludovika took the decks, ready to close the night for Tiesto, but Tijs found his first chance at some DJ-hazing and smashed Lo’s headphones into pieces. Following bromance in the booth — and a new pair of headphones — Ludovika played this damaging set; tracklist below the break.

The BPM Festival returns to Playa del Carmen, January 4-13, 2013

For the sixth year, the BPM Festival returns to the beaches of Playa del Carmen, Mexico for 10 days of non-stop festivities. One can enjoy music by day on the beach and by night at multiple nighttime destinations. The party doesn’t stop there though – last year Steve Lawler spun a jungle party — in the actual jungle –and others saw intimate DJ experiences inside the caves of the Mayan ruins.

DJ Mag describes it as a “blissful setting of a white sandy beach surrounded by lush, tropical plantations, allowing easier integration into the influx of what’s essentially an A-to-Z of who’s who in house music today.” The festival’s past lineups have included world class talent such as Dubfire, John Digweed, Laidback Luke, Richie Hawtin, Seth Troxler, Steve Angello and many more. A limited number of super early bird 10-Day VIP wristbands are available now from Wantickets.
