Kicking things off on the Fourth of July, they plan to throw a festival style event on the waterfront of the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, with the opening event to feature Sasha, Maya Jane Coles, Davide Squillace and Bill Patrick. The second event will take place on July 27th and will host Luciano, Carl Craig, and Moodymann. These names are some of the biggest and best in the underground world, and we can’t wait to see what else Verboten has in store for the duration of festival season.

red bull guest house

For those in the know, the Red Bull Guest House (aka the Dream South Beach Hotel on every other week of the year) was a WMC hot spot this year for catching marquee talents in an intimate setting populated by sunbathing models and A-list onlookers. With eye-opening lineups featuring the likes and labels of Skrillex, A-Trak, and Boys Noize, the poolside performance spot mostly catered to more new-school genres like electro, dubstep and trap over the course of the past week.

Jamie-Jones-B&W-47

Last weekend Governors Island hosted the final show of the summer festival season. The people of Ibiza United and Basic NYC put together a star-studded lineup of some of the biggest names in the underground dance music scene for this year’s Black and White Festival. The first day, ‘black,’ featured Resident Advisor’s #1 ranked DJ of 2011, Jamie Jones, along with Detroit techno legend Carl Craig, producing powerhouse Butch, and other DJs like Antonio Piacquadio, Derrick Carter, Elon, and Ramon Tapia. The event featured all-black attire, upgraded sound system, and was a much more intimate experience than past Governors Island shows. (more…)

For one last show of the Governors Island season, the people of Ibiza United present the two-day Black and White Festival. Jamie Jones headlines day 1 ‘black,’ where he will play a four-hour extended set and be joined by Detroit techno legend Carl Craig and other artists like Derrick Carter, Butch, and more. Day 2 ‘white’ brings in former Sound Factory resident Jonathan Peters, who will be bringing back some old-school house flavor with a “Classics” set. Tickets are still available on the Clubtickets website.

Only two days left to vote for your Essential Mix of the year!

BBC-One-Essential-Mix

BBC Radio 1′s Essential Mix has become required listening for any self-respecting EDM fan. The two-hour broadcast has made an icon out of Pete Tong, launched the career of many aspiring DJs, and reaffirmed the superstar status of house heavyweights.

Every year, fans of the show have the chance to vote for their favorite mix from the past 12 months. Last year’s winner was Swedish House Mafia’s live set from Creamfields 2010 — the show at which they debuted their now-infamous “everybody in the crowd sit down and jump up when the beat kicks” routine. As great as that mix was, it ignited some serious debate among fans, most notably those who felt Avicii deserved the title for his debut on the show.

Voting for the Essential Mix of 2011 closes at 2100 GMT on December 19, 2011 — that’s 4 p.m. on the East Coast of the U.S. This year, 15 mixes have nominated for the top honor by a panel of Radio 1 judges. Here’s the shortlist: eardyman, Brookes Brothers, Carl Craig, Dimitri From Paris, Eats Everything at In:Motion, Eric Prydz at Creamfields, Jamie XX, Joker, Julio Bashmore, Kaskade, Maya Jane Coles, Pete Tong 20, SBTRKT, Seth Troxler

You can submit your vote at the Essential Mix site. The winner will be replayed at 3am UK time on December 24th.
