Throughout Boys Noize’s lengthy career, he’s represented everything between techno and electro, and in the case of today’s Weekend Rewind, old-school, 90′s inspired house. “Adonis,” which was recorded using the German producer’s Roland Tr-909, was released on Sven Väth’s Cocoon Records back in 2011. The track is rich with warm piano lines that build steadily throughout its playtime. The recurrent piano notes lay over a funk-infused bass line, with a high-hat and chanting vocal segment to bring it all together. Groovy is the theme of this throw back, which will forever be slated as a true Boys Noize classic.
Drumcode head Adam Beyer returns to Ibiza to play at Amnesia, where Sven Väth’s Cocoon party hosted Väth and Ricardo Villalobos on the terrace, and Chris Liebing and Beyer in the main room. This segment is an except from the middle part of Beyer’s set where he proclaimed “it started to get lively, smoke canons started to spit their smoke out over the crowd and the party started for real.” Look out for unreleased material from Jeremy Olander’sDhillon moniker, Joseph Capriati, and more.
Guy J, an Israeli producer we’ve seen steamrolling forward in 2012 with the launch of his Lost & Found imprint (under megastar John Digweed‘s Bedrock label), is out with his second release on the infant imprint. The two tracks “Vaga” and “We Do It Best” show, as always, Guy’s genre-spanning and melodic production style that lies somewhere in the midst of pure progressive house, tech house, and trance sensibilities. He’s also put out records on labels like Tiga‘s Turbo and techno mainstay Cocoon — only further evidence he can meld with producers associated with pretty distinct scenes within the genre. If you like his style, also take a stab at his guest mix from Above & Beyond‘s ABGT show two weeks back (in the last 30 minutes). Stream and purchase after the break.
It’s been 13 long years since German techno visionary Sven Väth first brought his Cocoon party to Ibiza, a remarkable span of time that has seen the White Isle blossom into a global epicenter for dance music. Weathering ebbs and flows in genre popularity, Väth’s party built its reputation as an uncompromising haven for underground techno. This summer’s “Into the Magic” incarnation was no different, boasting a staggering lineup of scene stalwarts like Richie Hawtin and Chris Liebing, as well as young guns like Seth Troxler and Maya Jane Coles.
In the wake of his closing party, Väth has released a fan-centric after movie to recap the season. Featuring such vaunted acts as Loco Dice and Ricardo Villalobos, the video is a fitting capstone to an Ibiza season in which underground parties (see Enter and Cadenza) flourished. Now that Amnesia is closed for autumn, Väth is taking his Cocoon Heroes show on the road. With 17 dates announced in 13 countries — including shows in New York and Miami — those who couldn’t make it to Ibiza this summer can still experience the magic.
