Example has released his fourth studio album, The Evolution of Man: a rock-dance crossover, featuring a star studded lineup of producers. Example, ever-keen on his EDM-game, has recruited everyone from dubstep/drum ‘n’ bass legends Skream and Benga, to electro house technicians Laidback Luke and Tommy Trash, to big room maestros Alesso and Dirty South for production duties. Example’s rapturous flow is on point as usual, treading the line between soft, reflective musings and intensely evocative wordplay.
With The Evolution of Man, Example has successfully merged EDM, rap, and rock n’ roll. While nearly the entire spectrum of electronic music is represented on the album, each track maintains a distinctive rock feel. Though less strictly EDM, this is undoubtedly the most impressive lineup of EDM producers on a vocalist’s album to date. And as we’ve already seen with Dyro and Hardwell & Dannic’s revisions, Example has bestowed producers with an endless supply of remix material. Dance music’s resident dickhead might come off as a degenerate but his upbringing and work ethic run contrary to his class clown lifestyle. In an interview with Spin he reveals, ”I had to watch two hours of Sesame Street and study Hooked on Phonics every day. I didn’t even know any curse words until I was 15.” Francis ultimately graduated from Big Bird to dabbling in various art forms — including photography and dick doodling — until he finally found his niche in music.
Moombahton, the genre which took over the airwaves of 2012, celebrates its 3rd birthday today. A fusion of dutch-house and reggaeton, moombahton was invented—if not accidentally discovered—by American producer Dave Nada. Turning down Afrojack’s remix of Silvio Ecomo & DJ Chuckie’s “Moombah” from 128BPMs to 108BPMs during a house party in Washington DC, Nada conceived a unique sound that had an instant reaction.

Dillon Francis and Diplo are well known for their antics but Francis may have just stolen the class clown top spot with this video. Are you a DJ? Do you need to steer clear of rabid fans? Kick serato chasers out of the booth? Protect yourself from an offensive Flo Rida request? If so, Francis’ “self-defense” moves might be for you. Press play to check out his spastic kicking, air humps, and self-provided sound effects — or better yet, buy tickets for the New York stop of his Wet and Reckless tour to see the ninja in action. Producers Rocky and Rufio’s bass-heavy pop beats weave around the soulful vocals of Skaar to create the harmonious tunes of Monsta. The trio, who was discovered by Skrillex and signed to OWSLA, released its debut self-titled EP today. Made up of three original productions and three epic remixes, the compilation will tickle the ears of dubstep and pop fans alike.
Beginning with the opening track “Hold On,” listeners can hear the power behind Skaar’s silky androgynous voice. The original cut creeps into a muffled bubbling bassline to emphasize Skaar’s every echo before a rework by Skrillex and Nero comes up later on the EP. “Messiah” and “Where Did I Go” precede the list of heavyweight remixes, both of which give listeners melodic instrumental beats laced by Skaar’s seemingly signature vocal hooks.
