Electric Zoo 2012 was bigger than it appeared from the 103rd street Bridge; the underlying message of the weekend came from the lineup found in the festival’s handheld booklet. In previous years progressive house acts were prominent all around, but this time, the genre took a back seat to the increasingly popular sounds of electro, dub, techno, and moombah.
Kicking off the weekend, the animals anxious enough to trek to Randalls Island early Friday immediately made A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold Clubhouse their afternoon residence. Without progressive options, this was my opportunity to spread my wings and experiment with brand new sounds, and the inescapable hype around Dillon Francis brought me to the Riverside tent.
Played during commercial breaks of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, and respected by some of the biggest artists in dance music, it’s safe to say that Madeon’s “Finale” is one of the hottest tracks of the summer. Topping off the French prodigy’s efforts, Dillon Francis offers his one-of-a-kind talents turning “Finale” into a whole new beastly track. Right from the start Francis cranks up the pace of the track, infuses just the right amount of nuances, and still maintains the tracks incredible originality. Of course, as the drop approaches around 1:30 you will begin to recognize Dillon Francis’s jaw grinding drop, which we deeply appreciate him for. Now out on beatport, this remix will undoubtably do some serious damage whenever and wherever it’s played.
Madeon and Dillon Francis are two of our favorite producers at the moment, and honestly, we didn’t even have to listen to this track to know that we were going to love it. Dillon does not majorly make over “Finale,” but rather leaves the essential elements of the track largely untouched. However, Dillon’s unique sound is unmistakable and it is in the track’s drop that Dillon’s talents truly shine. This will be released on Madeon’s PopCultur label on August 16th, exclusively on Beatport.

Two Saturdays ago, Diplo featured an extended mix from his protege-of-sorts, Dillon Francis, on his weekly Diplo and Friends radio show on BBC Radio 1 and 1xtra. The mix, which was just made available for free on SoundCloud, features a refreshingly unique blend of lesser-known artists and tracks spanning genres from moombahton to house and nu-disco.
To keep the set contemporary, Dillon mixes in chart-topping hits like Porter Robinson’s “Language,” and recently released tracks including Knife Party’s “Sleaze” and his own remix of Steve Aoki’s “Control Freak.” Clocking in just thirty seconds short of two hours and featuring cameos from Madonna and Arnold Schwarzenegger, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better summertime mix (aside from our own Axis podcast, of course). Download your copy and check after the break for the full tracklist.
Doctor P and Dillon Francis, two of the biggest names in dubstep and moombahton, have joined forces to bring you their brand new track “Music Is Dead.” This is the first track off the upcoming Circus Records EP, Mr. Mongoose’s Fantastic Weekend - released on June 11th. The two producers’ unique styles combine into a track that should definitely be classified as moombahton yet has unmistakable dubstep influences. Dillon Francis describes “Music Is Dead” as ‘the funkiest biggest moombahton record ever.’ Have a listen to it below and let us know if you agree with him.
