YouTube record-breaking sensation “Gangnam Style” has been transformed and the shouts of Psy have been put to good use with help from Afrojack and Diplo. Both heavyweight electronic artists take different approaches with their ‘remix styles’; Afrojack unloads his armory of bulky bleeps and adds a depth of animation to his trademark sound, while Diplo offers a a trap drop and rap verses from 2 Chainz and Tyga. Afrojack’s heavy-electro version has been tested and proven at live shows during months of anticipation, but Diplo‘s take comes as a surprise on the day of its release.

Diplo delves into underground ballroom scene in second ‘Blow Your Head’ episode

After premiering his new cultural documentary series Blow Your Head on Potato last week, Diplo has followed it up with a strong second showing. The latest installment features Qween Beat co-founder Mike Q and shines a light on the underground LGBT ballroom scene that he makes music within. While the seminal 1990 documentary Paris is Burning introduced the “voguing” dance form to mainstream consciousness, Mike Q shows that the style is alive and well in modern day Manhattan and New Jersey. Diplo has delivered again, providing a great glimpse into a thriving house sub-culture that rarely gets attention.

For today’s GMM we’re rewinding to Major Lazer‘s inception, when the production output was made up of Diplo and Switch. At the time, the pair had just released Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do and structured the mix with one hour from Diplo followed by another from Switch.  Mixing in classic reggae sounds and future classic Major Lazer productions, the two producers gave listeners insight into the origins of the rasta-inspired beats Diplo has now championed for the last 3 years. ‘Potato Will Eat You’ revealed, more than just a collaboration

Skrillex, A-Trak, and Diplo have been teasing an upcoming project, Potato Will Eat You, using nothing but cryptic photos and videos for the past few weeks. The trio has released another video, this time to announce that the launch will take place at 4pm on February 18th and that, despite speculation, it will be much more than just a collaboration. The video comes from its own YouTube outlet that urges viewers to subscribe and is slated to offer “Shortcuts” (which may be DJ lessons of sorts), music videos, audio premieres, along with other intriguing yet mysterious attractions. Can “Potato Will Eat You” still be a collaboration between the Grammy boys? Maybe. But it seems that it will be, in essence, a media hub for dance music exclusives.
