DJs Chus & Boris have worked together in the past, and this time the two house titans hand over, “Soul of a DJ,” a release on Toolroom Records. Chus (of Chus & Ceballos) and Boris have both independently made great names for themselves over the years in advancing Balearic and New York house sounds respectively, and the combination of their production talents seem to be a perfect merger of these two sounds. “Soul of a DJ” is tech house at its core, but does not ignore its most basic tribal, latin, and techno influences. They also owe a tip of the hat to Roland Clark on vocals, who provides a testament to the core tenants of a DJ’s mantra. The package is out on Toolroom on June 12th, and includes a remix from Tony Dee & Hollen.
Party squad Toolroom Knights is coming in hot with an expansive new compilation mixed by Forza — the Italian trio known individually as Alex Kenji, Manuel de la Mare, and Luigi Rocca. The massive compilation racks up the count to 43 tracks across three different albums and gives us an excellent review of a range of tech and acid house cuts from the last year. If that wasn’t enough, Forza also treats us to five new exclusives from each of the three producers, respectively. Other major additions to the compilation include Prok & Fitch‘s “Symphony,” Alex Kenji’s remix of Sander van Doorn‘s “Outro,” Joris Voorn‘s “Goodbye Fly,” Shawnee Taylor and Sympho Nympho‘s “Colors,” and Reboot’s “Enjoy Music” with a DJ Chus 2012 re-edit. Check out the five exclusives courtesy of Toolroom Records below.
A few weeks ago, Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records took us behind the scenes in a new web series showcasing all the happenings within the world-renowned label. In its debut episode, Knight declared that “[Federico Scavo, Alex Kenji, and Manuel De La Mare] are the future of Toolroom.” A plug like this — coming from a man of his stature — is as high of an accolade a DJ could hope for. On this latest rendition of “Runnin’,” Manuel De La Mare makes Mark Knight’s claims crystal clear. With its bouncy chord play and rhythmic beat, this groovy tech house gem has the dance floor appeal of a soulful summertime party.
