We’ve come to associate French producer LIFELIKE with fellow countrymen Alan Braxe, the late DJ Mehdi, Justice, and Daft Punk and known he’s been working on his debut artist album, Future Disco, for quite some time now. With Kitsuné Maison’s release of the first single off the album “Don’t Stop” as a remix package we now get our first tasty bits of this disco-techno goodness.
A-Trak‘s ever-skillful turntablism complements LIFELIKE’s on-point French electro-disco production. The remix duties go to Minnesotan Gigamesh (who manages to give the track even more of a vintage feel) as well as Parisians Mauvais Cliché and The Bloody Sisters. If that wasn’t enough, the EP release also includes club and extended mixes. Check out a sampling below.

One year ago today, the dance music community was rocked by the tragic loss of one of its brightest stars and most charismatic personalities. Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, known to most as DJ Mehdi, was an eclectic DJ/Producer with deep roots in house and hip hop culture. A true artist behind the decks, Mehdi’s mixing was unique and unpredictable – testament to both his impeccable ear and his tactical finesse.
A showman and music-auteur, his approach to production was not restricted by genres or mainstream acceptance. Instead, it was fueled by an unquenchable desire to innovate and experiment, leading him to take on numerous side projects, including his collaboration with Riton, Carte Blanche. Below is a compilation of some of our personal favorites (remixed and originals) from the late DJ Mehdi.
So listen, enjoy, and remember that true talent lies within those who have the vision to challenge the status quo.
RIP DJ Mehdi.

The EDM community has lost a truly incredible talent today.
Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, the 34-year-old French producer better known as DJ Mehdi has reportedly died this morning.
According to various sources his death has been reported as “an accident” rumored to be a fall from his roof late last night/early morning.
We had the pleasure of seeing him perform last week at Electric Zoo alongside Riton as one half of the DJ/producer duo, Carte Blanche. His creativity, energy and good spirit was unparalleled behind the decks.
Our prayers and sympathy go out to his friends and family.
RIP DJ Mehdi (1977 – 2011)

For those of you who don’t know, Carte Blanche is the newest project of Ed Banger producer team DJ Mehdi and Riton. Their first EP, “Black Billionaires EP”, is going to be released at the end of May. The first single off the EP, “Do! Do! Do!”, caught my ear and this second single built off the success of the first one. They remind me of a softer-hitting Boys Noize.
