If The Prototypes were not already known for their big room, vocal drum-and-bass productions, their recent release of the Suffocate EP on Shogun Audio has firmly solidified their place among the new wave of promising production teams within this genre. Similar to 2010′s “Cascade,” the title track off this EP relies on a powerful vocal topline to complement characteristic breakbeats and a captivatingly melodic bass line.
The EP’s B-side, a track entitled “Habitation,” throws you for a bit of a loop by exposing the moodier and more dramatic side of The Prototypes’ musical ability. The EP includes an instrumental, radio edit, and Koven remix of “Suffocate” as well.

Bass music superstars Chase & Status roll back the years to their drum and bass days with their latest release. “Big Man,” which features the evocative vocals of Liam Bailey, contains sections in which clear influences from hard rock and metal are audible. Fans of the British duo’s older productions will be glad to know that a more traditional Chase & Status sound is still present in the track’s breakdown. “Big Man” is available as a free download on the Chase & Status website so head over there and grab a free copy for yourself.

Fresh off the success of his stellar remix of Major Lazer’s “Get Free,” Andy C delivers yet another gem in the form of his remix of Plan B’s “Deepest Shame.” His drum and bass remix goes just hard enough to satisfy veteran drum and bass listeners, while still being accessible enough for a more mainstream music fan. Plan B once again displays his boundless talent with some absolutely immense vocals which complement the energy of the track perfectly. Have a listen below and you’ll hear why we can’t get enough of this track.
Drum and bass mastermind, Sub Focus, is back with a preview of a brand new single and we could not be happier about it. Judging from the preview, “Tidal Wave” sounds as though it is going to be an absolute monster of a track. It features the incredible vocals of Alpines’ member Catherine Pockson and is jam packed with addictive melodic synth sounds. If you enjoy this but want something a little heavier, make sure to check out the KillSonik remix. Unfortunately you’ll have to wait a while before being able to hear the full version of the original as it is not coming out for quite some time. Until then enjoy the preview!
When it comes to drum and bass, there is one name that you absolutely need to know – Netsky. He has released two full length albums, been nominated for Essential Mix Of The Year, and has headlined festivals all around the world. Not bad for a guy who just turned twenty three years old. He’s playing the main stage at Electric Zoo this year and in our view he is an artist that you absolutely need to see. Click after the break for more on this Belgian drum and bass prodigy.
If you listened to Tiesto’s Club Life, Pete Tong’s Essential Selection or an Avicii set in the past few months, you’ve almost definitely heard Jupiter Ace’ massive track “Glowing In The Dark.” Well the house anthem undergoes some major makeovers in the remix package. With drum and bass, heavy electro and chilled out deep house, there is something for everyone. Click after the break to check out remixes from DC Breaks, Chooky & Screendeath.
You probably won’t immediately recognize the names of these artists, but don’t let that put you off. We tend to feature a lot of progressive house on Dancing Astronaut but also are making the effort to bring you more tracks from lesser-listened-to genres of electronic music. The L Plus remix of “Light Speed” is a superb drum and bass track that has just the right amount of kick without going too hard. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be really into drum and bass, have a listen to this track and you might find your musical tastes expanding. “Light Speed” is out July 30th.
A lot of you will know DJ Fresh from his hugely popular “Gold Dust.” Since then DJ Fresh has experienced major mainstream success with “Louder” and “Hot Right Now” which both reached number 1 on the UK charts. While perhaps going in a more poppy direction than some of his older fans would wish, you can’t argue that the man has nailed down a recipe for success. “The Feeling” is the latest effort from DJ Fresh and is a light, vaguely poppy drum and bass track. While it is certainly catchy, we’d prefer something that goes a little harder. Perhaps the remix package will provide that.
How would you spend your last night on earth? Well Drumsound & Bassline Smith attempt to tackle that question with the music video for their upcoming single “Through The Night.” In the video, a couple spend their last night on earth causing havoc, breaking stuff and having an overall great time with each other. Certainly not a bad way to go. “Through The Night” is out on July 29th and we’re predicting big things for this drum & bass anthem.
