For what is said to be one of the more glorious festival experiences in North America, Insomniac Events revealed the Electric Forest’s initial 2013 lineup. Headliners include Pretty Lights and Knife Party, and an assortment of other eclectic acts such as Passion Pit, Empire of the Sun, and Lotus. A-Trak, Tommy Trash, Madeon, and Benny Benassi will fill the house and electro void, and rising stars RL Grime and Baauer will bring their trap awareness to the mystic forest of Rothbury, Michigan. Electric Forest hosts a wide variety of DJs and sounds, and takes place in one of the most unique locations that a festival on its scale will ever see. Nestled in the majestic backwoods of the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Michigan, Electric Forest is truly a festival experience like no other. Every year, art installations, kaleidoscopic lights, and gallivanting vagrants fill the deep wilderness in celebration of dance music. This summer, the natural habitat will suffer (or savor) pervading basslines and reverberant soundscapes June 27th through the 30th. It is also apparent that the festival plans to expand again. With a capacity of 25,000 last year, Electronic Midwest reports festival producers have requested to nearly double the capacity to 40,000. The increase in attendance would see extended use of the grounds (similar to the Rothbury Festival in 2009) and most likely additional stages. DA will keep you updated as more information unfolds.
The Electric Forest festival is a truly unique musical experience that meshes countless genres of music with 4 days of camping in the Michigan woods. The acts are accompanied by large scale art installations and sculptures — think Burning Man in a forest. The production value on this video is impressive, and since we did not have the chance to experience Electric Forest ourselves, we figured we’d share.
