Where My Head’s At: Marco Carola makes minds bend with unforgettable, indescribable Electric Zoo 2012 set
You'll come across a lot of different experiences in your career as an electronic music enthusiast, but anyone dying to break away from the main stage acts and try something different should definitely see a DJ set by Marco Carola. It wasn't about fitting in as many of the current hits into one set, whether they be remixed or bootlegged or reworked or whatever it is that DJs do these days. It was about offering an unparalleled dance experience, one that you had no control over and could get completely and unconditionally lost in.
Where My Head’s At: Skrillex’s mothership lays waste to the mainstage at Electric Zoo 2012
Back in 2010, a then unknown in dance music, Screemo rockstar, Sonny Moore, released a 5 track EP under the moniker Skrillex. Then he gave it away for free to the world, sparking a sonic revolution creating a rift in the EDM landscape. There was no corporate entity behind him, just a kid on his laptop making music that he liked, experimenting with new sounds -- creating a new genre, by himself, alone in his bedroom. I don't remember how I found Skrillex's first EP, it was likely on one of the countless electro blogs that have come and gone since then, but from the moment I pressed play on "My Name is Skrillex" I knew that what I was hearing wasn't going to go away. It was too robust and too unique to not explode into the forefront of the next generation of electronic dance music.
Martin Solveig at Electric Zoo 2012: More than just ‘Hello’
Martin Solveig did more than just say "Hello" at this year’s Electric Zoo Festival. It has been a huge year for Solveig with his role in Madonna’s MDNA tour, and his role as house DJ for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, and, most recently, the release of SMASH.
Zedd showcases his talents at Electric Zoo 2012 despite a safe set list
With such an amazing lineup for Electric Zoo 2012, picking the must see artists was hard to do. When I first saw the lineup and noticed that Zedd was scheduled for Sunday afternoon, I quickly made the decision to see him. Despite his recent successes, Zedd is still underrated. Before "Spectrum," he had a ton of solid productions, many of which did not get the recognition they deserved ("Dovregrubben" anyone?) Although an avid fan, Sunday was my first time experiencing one of Zedd's sets live -- and I could not have been more impressed.
