One of the most important constituents of being a DJ (if not the most important) is song selection, and anyone who has seen Fatboy Slim live knows this is where he excels. Norman Cook’s knowledge and appreciation for music is vast. The English visionary is just as likely to drop an obscure latin house track as he is Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” While a few months back Cook treated us to a clean mashup of “I Feel Love” and “Rolling in the Deep,” today Fatboy goes festive with a mashup of the Cube Guys and Luciana’s “Jump” over Gary Beck’s delectable techno track “Get Down.” The result is an impeccably rhythmic edit with a catchy mirthful charm, available for free from Fatboy Slim’s SoundCloud.

Jay Lumen has been on our radar since dropping his Teach Us EP, so we were thrilled to see him link up with techno-master Gary Beck for two new tracks. The collaborative effort between Lumen and Beck is an EP entitled Lotus, lead by dark and groovy tech-house crafted for the after hours. The title track, “Lotus,” builds on a chugging drumline and works into echoing chords for a contagious dance beat. The second track, “Strange Fruit,” is the lighter effort, featuring a summery tech-house bounce that gives the EP some relief. If you’re looking for a techno groove to spice things up, jump below the break and listen to Jay Lume and Gary Beck’s new EP.
