It’s 1am on Sunday morning. Saturday’s clubgoers are still at large and in South London and Tommy Trash looks tired, but positively beaming with confidence. Sitting patiently in the backroom of Ministry of Sound, the Australian club icon (real name Thomas Olsen) is reciting the mayhem that has shaped his European tour so far. He’s already scaled Milan, Newcastle, and Middlesbrough, unveiling a melting pot of European club culture along the way that Tommy himself is still struggling to digest. “Those kids in Newcastle were fucking nuts,” he laughs. “It was just intense. There is nothing like going somewhere a little off the radar and being completely blown away by the crazy energy.”
Memorial Day Weekend is upon us. For all of us here on US soil, MDW is the official kick off to summer, the moment when it is officially acceptable to wear white pants, and for many a celebration of months and months without snow, sleet, or ice. From coast to coast, Dancing Astronaut has your partying needs covered. Click through to see what is going on in the party capitals of New York City and Las Vegas next weekend.
All eyes have been on Vegas in recent weeks. Between claims that the Las Vegas Strip is the new Playa d’en Bossa, a slew of impressive new residencies at the city’s hottest clubs, and the grand opening of the MGM Grand’s Hakkasan Las Vegas, any fan of nightlife would be hard pressed to ignore what’s going on in the Nevada desert these days.
The New York Times recently sat down to pick the brain of the Angel Management Group’s CEO, Neil Moffitt, who together with the Hakkasan company will be responsible for running the show at Las Vegas’s biggest new club. This is the man that was there from the very beginning, he speaks about his “first foray” into the electronic music market in 2004, when he booked fellow Brit Paul Oakenfold at Ice.
With summer fast approaching and Vegas pool party season about to be in full swing, MGM’s Hakkasan Las Vegas and Wet Republic have just announced their Memorial Day Weekend lineups. Easily one of the best weekends of the summer in the City of Sin, Memorial Day Weekend is always an action packed experience. Hakkasan’s first MDW on the strip boasts an impressive selection of talents, including Laidback Luke, Tiësto, Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, Deadmau5 and Hardwell all set to perform from Thursday to Monday. MGM’s iconic pool party WET REPUBLIC features a similarly stacked lineup with R3hab and Tommy Trash, Tiësto, Calvin Harris and Deadmau5 currently on the bill.
Tickets for both event series go on sale Wednesday, April 24th.

Just after celebrating his 18th birthday, Danny Avila has announced that he will join Hakkasan Las Vegas as a resident in the summer months. Starting in April, Danny will play both the WET REPUBLIC pool parties as well as the monolithic megaclub, sharing the space with Calvin Harris, Tiësto, Deadmau5 and more. As the youngest resident in Las Vegas history, Danny is setting a new precedent for Vegas nightlife and rubbing elbows with dance music’s biggest talents before he’s even old enough to drink in the US.
Neil Moffit, CEO of Angel Management Group cites Avila’s “captivating drive” and “youthful spirit” that “breathes life into his performances.” He added, “(Danny’s) nascent but ambitious career mirrors the spirit and drive of Hakkasan Las Vegas, and we are excited for this synergistic partnership.”
Not content with a simple residency, Hardwell has just announced his “Go Hardwell or Go Home” event series for Hakkasan Las Vegas. The exclusive brand will showcase the amphetamine-laced sets of the Revealed Recordings head honcho, including performances at WET REPUBLIC.
“Hakkasan Las Vegas is going to be an experience beyond anyone’s imagination and I am very excited to celebrate my new experience with my fans,” says Hardwell.
To create this experience, Hardwell will utilize state of the art visuals and his own productions to transport guests into a futuristic space travel experience complete with spacemen and an atmosphere that is truly intergalactic. The “Go Hardwell or Go Home” series promises to epitomize Hardwell’s music, representing the final frontier of electronic music experiences.
Beam us up, Robbert.
