For trance fans, the choice for New Year’s Eve in New York was clear. Newly re-crowned number one DJ in the world Armin van Buuren was joined by Jerome Isma-ae and Jochen Miller at Pier 36 for a high-energy, nonstop party to ring in 2013. We arrived just in time to catch the last 20 minutes of Jerome’s set, but the change in mood as Armin took over the decks right around 11pm was palpable. He eased the crowd into his four hour set with familiar tracks like his collaboration “I’ll Listen” with Ana Criado, the Omnia Remix of Cosmic Gate‘s “Calm Down,” and catchy tracks from pals like Dash Berlin and Andrew Rayel.
Fresh off his remix of “Sparks,” Jochen Miller returns with a collaboration with his fellow Dutchman, Marco V. Their single “BASH!!!” features a light note progression with heavy bass undertones culminating with a very electro style drop. You can see the inspiration from both artists with Marco V stepping up the energy level while Jochen Miller uses his trance background to add balance to the track. “BASH!!!” is now available from In Charge Records on Beatport.

Fedde Le Grand and Nicky Romero’s progressive chart topper “Sparks” is finally seeing new life on its trance-inspired remix package. The premier offering is Jochen Miller’s rendition, which uses Matthew Koma’s vocal to its potential in its latest form. Keeping the prog-house backbone in tact, Miller builds around the original with more melodic builds and even hard kicks. Purchase Jochen’s remix of “Sparks,” along with versions from Nilson and Iceash, from Beatport today.

Jochen Miller refuses to stay within the boundaries of trance, progressive, or electro house, as he showcases so finely on his latest “Nevada.” Starting from the 1:00 mark “Nevada” goes into an infectiously minimalistic drop that will instantly cause big rooms and festivals to react wildly. Of course, going back to his trance roots, Jochen Miller inserts segments filled with uplifting lead play and funky samples, which all come together with the unmatchable percussions that carry the track throughout the 6:23. Now out on Big & Dirty Records, “Nevada” is the perfect follow up to some of Miller’s best work such as “Flashback,” “Summer,” and “Wild and Perfect Day.”

Dutch duo W&W and Jochen Miller have joined forces on the production side to give way to “Summer” – the synth loaded and melody driven summertime smasher. Miller, who recently outed the floor destroying masterpiece “Zodiac,” combines his electro fused trance sound with W&W’s harder hitting edge. The official video shows a typical day in the life of a Dutch DJ – as Jochen Miller takes us through the heart of Amsterdam into W&W’s studio where the collaborative effort takes place. The single is now out exclusively on Beatport and other portals on July 2.
Insomniac Events is borrowing the MetLife stadium this weekend for a little music festival called the Electric Daisy Carnival. For a few glorious hours, some of the world’s biggest DJs have descended upon the New York Giants’ stadium and surrounding parking lots, which have been spectacularly transformed. We’ve brought you photos and video, and now, thanks to our friends at House4DJ, we have live sets.
It’s summer, folks. The American EDM festival circuit is now in full swing, and the big-room heavyweights are adjusting nicely to the change in scale. Enjoy yourselves — and let us know your favorites in the comments.
Update: R3hab, Chuckie, Shermanology, and Alesso have gone ahead and uploaded their sets to SoundCloud. Grab the free downloads below. Similarly, TheFuture.FM has all the sets available to stream without any of the Zippyshare nastiness — but sadly you can’t download.
Legendary Dutch duo Rank 1 has teamed up with Jochen Miller yet again to bring us another trance masterpiece. “Wild and Perfect Day” employs catchy vocals by Sarah Bettens to complement the blend of melody and bass which keeps the song going from start to finish. There are two different versions of this track: a clean extended mix that starkly contrasts the dub version which is more upbeat and raw. Both are available on Beatport now, and either edition should satisfy any trance fan.

Although trance hasn’t been the popular choice of house music fans lately, Jochen Miller gloriously incorporates newer and older electronic styles to create the nostalgic sounding “Flashback.” Similar to Hardwell’s ‘trouse’, after a strong progressive build-up, Jochen Miller warps you into the track at the 2:00 mark with enormous trance sounds. Twenty seconds later, Miller drops arguably some of the most powerful and euphoric synths of the year. With all of that being said, “Flashback” also includes harmonic bass lines, and all the little nuances that separates an average track from a supreme one. Beware, Jochen Miller’s “Flashback” is just as uncontrollably addicting as “Flashback” by Calvin Harris, and will probably be placed on repeat right after your first listen!
