DA’s own progressive house upholder and consistent label hopper Andre Sobota returns to the spotlight with two new cuts for Anjunadeep this month. Last found at the label remixing Jody Wisternoff’s vocal single “Out Of Reach”, his debut solo offering forms a solid continuation of the fluid instrumental studio work that has held his name in such high esteem to-date. Where A-side “Tokyo Dawn” deals in deep and dreamy melodic progressions and lightly formed grooves throughout, “Move” summons more subtle and hypnotic underground hallmarks from this Brazilian all-rounder. On the approach to the third-quarter of 2013, Sobota is looking more dexterously placed on the industry skyline than ever before. If his debut Anjunadeep two-track is to be believed, this alternative alias to drum & bass kingpin Bungle looks only fall into higher demand with such integral and intuitive cuts at his mercy. Editors’ Selections is an opportunity for your favorite Dancing Astronaut contributors to talk about some of the music they’re listening to that we might not always get an opportunity to post about from week to week. Sometimes it’s out there, sometimes it’s obscure, but you’ll always get a peek into what we’re loving behind closed doors.
The fifth volume of Anjunadeep‘s not-so-regular compilation series was released today, and it’s already at number one on the iTunes US Dance charts, ahead of Zedd’s Clarity, Tiesto’s Club Life Vol. 3, and Hardwell’s Revealed Vol. 4. This time around the compilation was mixed by label head (and brother to Above & Beyond’s Jono Grant) James Grant and long time dance music veteran Jody Wisternoff. This mix certainly cannot be confined to one genre under the dance music umbrella — deep house, techno, two-step, and ambient electronica all seem to ebb and flow throughout the duo’s selections. Dusky, Andrew Bayer, Beckwith, Tom Middleton, Lane 8, Kahwe, Matt Lange, and Andre Sobota all make appearances, representing both well-known records and newer additions to the well-curated Anjunadeep roster.
Shortly after the announcement of the full tracklisting for the newest Anjunadeep compilation, Alfie and Nick of Dusky release a hefty preview of their contribution to James Grant and Jody Wisternoff’s mix — “Mr. Man.” The record is Dusky a bit unplugged, offering up softer sentiments than some of their more recent chunky offerings. If anything, the calmer take for Anjunadeep is a shot of heterogeneity into the unfailing Dusky sound.Posted by
Anjunadeep is preparing to cool your summer off in a big way. On July 22nd, the sizzling sub-label will release their Anjunadeep 05 compilation, bringing hours of underground sounds to the forefront. This year’s compilation was mixed in two parts by label head James Grant and Way Out West’s Jody Wisternoff.
Grant’s CD gives a taste of what’s next for the label, featuring exclusive originals from the likes of Dusky, DAVI and Beckwith. Wisternoff takes a more curated approach, peppering the selections with his own remixes of everyone from Above & Beyond to Skanna. Check the full tracklist below the break for more details and pre-order your copy today.
Masterful deep house and progressive label Anjunadeep is at it again with the release of their Anjunadeep Remixes Collection 02 which manages to package up ten of the best reworks, reshapes, and re-edits from the scene over the last year. From start to finish this collection keeps it downtempo and groovy in the best way possible; it would work on a late night dance floor just as well as your next dinner party.
Unfortunately we do not have a full album stream for you, but we’ve linked to some of DA‘s favorites in the tracklist below and if you really love what you’re hearing, follow the links to purchase on Beatport.

Bristolian progressive/deep house veteran Jody Wisternoff releases a remix package for “Out of Reach” today, the lastest single off his debut Trails We Blaze artist album released on Anjunadeep back in May. This collection includes extended, radio, and dub edits of the track as well as remixes from Dusky’s Alfred Taylor and Brazilian newcomer Andre Sobota. While much of the original track focuses on Johnathan Mendelsohn’s soulful vocals, the radio edit cranks up the BPM to something more suitable for nightlife. In traditional Dusky fashion, Alfred Taylor’s remix slows down the tempo, stutters the vocals, and elevates the bass. Andre Sobota, on the other hand, shows us his promise once again with his dark, tribal, and totally creative take on Jody’s original. Listen to and purchase the tunes after the break.
Trails We Blaze, the debut solo artist album from British veteran Jody Wisternoff, is an exercise in maturity. This is dance music for seasoned ears, full of sophisticated, soulful grooves that feel engineered for dance fans who’ve outgrown their neon outfits and brashly-sloganed tank tops — unless you can fit “I Love You But I’ve Chosen Dreamily Exotic Deep House with a Tinge of Progressive Trance” on a tank.
