As nu-disco continues to pick up speed, artists like Gigamesh aren’t slowing in bringing on funky productions dripping with disco-era appeal. Matt Marsuka aka Gigamesh first gained recognition for his poppy remixes, but it was his clear sense of genre fusion that caught our ear. The Minneapolis-based producer is championed for his remixes of Two Door Cinema Club, Foster The People and Katy B to name a few, but his latest output is a mastered version of his 2012 “Don’t Stop.” The new adaptation, “Don’t Stop (Version 2.0)” gives listeners a polished rendition of the already twinkling disco production. Though the updated rework does not add much when it comes to new sounds, the vocals of Jana Nyberg shine through the perfected bubbling beat. UK-based singer/songwriter Katy B stunned listeners with her debut album On a Mission last year. Categorized somewhere between dubstep, pop, and R&B, the London starlet shined through with her distinct vocals and electronic-driven beats. Now preparing to unveil her sophomore album in 2013, Katy B treated us with an early Christmas gift, her Danger EP.
The 4-track EP is a star-studded affair topped with Katy’s infectious voice — starting off with a helping hand from Rinse FM’s Geeneus and Jessie Ware on “Aaliyah,” the two singers pay a magnetic homage to the late princess of R&B. Wiley and Zinc lend their talents on the poppy “Get Paid,” while Diplo and Iggy Azalea hop on “Light As A Feather” which samples the previously released “Set It Off.” The title track finishes out the weighted Danger EP and Katy lets her sultry vocals take control of the smooth beat to create slow-building melody.
