When Toolroom Records said they were going to see their tenth anniversary off in style, few could doubt that Mark Knight and co. had something special in the pipes. Having already called upon Armin Van Buuren to resurrect “Downpipe” earlier in the year, Knight and Funkagenda’s “Man With Red Face” is the next sentimental house classic to be revisited by none other than Dutch heavyweight Hardwell. Young Robert Van De Corput has enjoyed near-unparalleled success on both the live circuit and digital market of late. For his remodel of this well-preserved classic, that viral festival primed aptitude is not lost. Full-bodied synths and big room energy in motion, this respectful yet boisterous remix opens the floodgates even further on Corput’s universal capabilities. The original may still sound timeless on the modern club floor, but a 21st century re-imagining from Hardwell is the icing on the cake where his most prolific year to date is concerned.
Laurent Garnier is arguably the biggest dance music heavyweight set to grace the stages of Electric Zoo next weekend. Make no mistake — he might not sell tickets like Tiësto or make fans scream like Sebastian Ingrosso, but in terms of longevity and significance, Laurent Garnier’s career is quite honestly second to none on EZoo’s lineup. Garnier is, of course, French but made a name for himself in the early heyday of house music in the UK — joining Haçienda resident Mike Pickering under the pseudonym DJ Pedro right as Detroit techno and Chicago house began to creep onto foreign shores.
This morning we have for you a treat from the Bromance Boys. Brodinski and Gesaffelstein laid hands on Laurent Garnier‘s trippy techno track “Jacques In The Box” from April of last year, and as always, the results are quite striking. It’s Garnier in slow motion — keeping the heart of the song intact but highlighting up the spookier side of French techno. It is not as easy to appreciate the remix without listening to how they altered the original, so make sure you get a chance to do both. The full remix package is out on April 1st on Ed Banger.Posted by
Best of the Rest is a daily feature from Dancing Astronaut that recaps the most important posts of the day as well as the stuff we didn’t get to. With the rapidity that dance music news and releases come out it’s difficult for us to hit everything — we hope BOTR serves as a catch-all. Make sure to check it out at the end of each day to ensure you don’t miss anything!
Luciano’s Vagabundos parties at Pacha Ibiza have already become the stuff of legend, but he’s also been making waves down the road at Ushuaia. His Thursday poolside residency was a smash hit last year, and if this video is any indication, he’s taken outdoor clubbing to delightful new heights in year two. With guest appearances by Laurent Garnier, Chicago house legend Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, and deep house’s golden child Maya Jane Coles, Luciano certainly knows how to curate a good time. If you needed another reason why you should be saving every penny until you can afford the trip to Ibiza, this is it.Posted by
